Bucket is complete with a leather slide steadying fitting, half way down the bucket, to attach it to the surcingle of the saddle, and a leather strap with brass buckle at the top of the bucket which attaches it to the saddle tree.Strap only is stamped with a broad arrow and manufacturer's details 'BLACKMAN LEATHER GOODS LTD. 175 BERMONDSEY ST S.E.1 1940'.

Uniforms worn by the soldiers in the illustration suggest that the item was used by Australians in World War One. Soldiers had to purchase the item.Rectangular hinged tin with a coloured illustration on the top. Illustration features three soldiers in an outdoor tented campsite. Illustration is bordered in black. Title in black and white lettering includes the text, CAMP POCKET CANDLESTICK./A SOLDIER’S FRIEND. Sides of the tin feature a yellow and green tartan pattern. Base of the tin is silver coloured with traces of the yellow and green tartan pattern. Inside of the tin has compartments for a candle and matches and a holder for a lit candle. Items in the collection relating to Lt Col Jack Swatton M.I.D. Regt No 4905, refer Cat No 6719.2P for his extensive service record and RSL.These are miniature black and white photos from WW1 scenes. They apparently were collected from cigarette packets. They are numbered, these are definitely not the full set. This book gives information on 1,100 War Memorials in Victoria. It was compiled by Bradley, Christey et al and produced for the Returned and Services League of Victoria. War Memorials were established in most settlements in Australia after World War One and added to after World War Two and succeeding conflicts. The number of War Memorials reflect the historical importance of Australia’s involvement in world wars and because of our distance from the battlefields they have become sacred places in Australia – de facto war cemeteries. The book includes information on the Warrnambool War Memorial and those in our area. This book is of interest as it gives details on War Memorials and includes all those in the Western District of Victoria. It will be useful to researchers of social and military history. This is a hard cover book with a blue cover and gold printing on the spine. The dust cover is dark blue with a colour sketch of the Portland War Memorial and white printing on the front cover and an outline of the map of Australia on the back cover.
