Back row: Syd Rosewarne, Reg Cambridge, Nancy Gullick (sister of Reg Cambridge) Front row: Mrs Rosewarne Snr, Mrs Eva Clements Snr, Mrs Iris Berry Photo taken in Mills Rd, (now Belgrave-Hallam Rd), Belgrave South in 1958. Mr & Mrs Rosewarne purchased the house next to Wahroonga (cnr Mills Rd & Cambridge St) from Mr & Mrs Palethorpe. The property was originally owned by Mr & Mrs Arthur Clement. Cambridge St is named after Reg Cambridge. The photo is taken outside. There is a large water tank on a stand in the background. The three women in the front row are seated and Mrs Clements has her arms around Mrs Rosewarne and Mrs Berry. -

Watercolour painting by Charlie Hammond showing two train carriages at Belgrave Station. A group of people stand on the small platform beside the small station building which bears the sign 'Monbulk'. In the background are hilly paddocks. The most distant paddock has rows of what appear to be fruit trees. Below the painting Hammond has written '1901 Belgrave Station when it was Monbulk. Benson's Hill in the background. Later – Biffin's and later still – Harper's Guest House. Typical of all the stations along the line. Govt. had not recovered from the land boom and could not afford to build better ones.' This painting is based on a photo taken by Hammond in 1906, which is labelled by him, 'Sunday 28th Jany 1906. bringing the injured passengers to Belgrave Ry Station after the accident at the trestle bridge.' -

Small envelope which contained three original photos and three postcards, donated to the society by founding member Helen Gibson c.1993. Envelope is pre-paid from the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria, Inc. Handwritten on it are 1. 'X10', written by Marian Matta while organising photos for cataloguing; 2. 'for Helen Gibson', presumably written by Gwen Thomas'; and 3. 'From Gwen Thomas – originally from Miss Field. Gwen also has a set of School Magazines – 1928. Any historical value?', written by Helen Gibson. -

B&W photo of Belgrave Reservoir, taken Easter 1922, presumably by Miss Field and passed on to Gwen Thomas then to Helen Gibson. Photo shows Belgrave Reservoir (now Belgrave Lake), possibly taken from near the weir and looking towards the heavily treed far shore. On back of photo, written in pen, is "Belgrave Res/Easter 1922'. 'Res' is slightly smudged and may have been 'Resv' or 'Resi'. -

There is a cluster of perhaps half a dozen animals which may be cows or horses They are standing near fencing. There appears to be a building further down the slope and possibly another building to the right of the paddock. On the treed hills in the background another two or so buildings are visible. On the back of the photo 'Belgrave Easter 1922' is written in pen. -

B&W photo of a scene in Belgrave, taken Easter 1922 presumably by Miss Field. The view is of Beauty Bend on the Monbulk Road where it crosses a small gully. Two men and a woman are standing on the near side of the fenced-off gully, another group people, perhaps two men and four women and girls, are sitting and standing on the far side of the gully, and a further two people are at the right of the photo. There are trees and tree ferns in the background and two signs are visible, attached to trees and possibly pertaining to a guesthouse further up the hill and accessible by a path which is just visible. On the back of the photo 'Belgrave Easter 1922' is written in pen. -

B&W postcard, Rose Series P.2365, named 'At The Kiosk, Ferntree Gully, Vic.' Photo shows around twenty or more cars parked outside the kiosk in what is now Ferntree Gully National Park Several people are walking and standing in the carpark and on the paths. The kiosk is visible in the background with advertising signs outside, including one for Peters Ice-cream. Closer to the camera is a stone shelter. There are tall trees beside the carpark and in the background of the photo is a heavily treed hillside. The back of the postcard is blank. -

B&W postcard, Valentine Series No. 3831, 'The Gully Bend, Belgrave Heights'. Photo shows a small group of women and children walking along a horseshoe-shaped section of road which has wooden railings along both sides. One woman is standing beside a child's pusher. There are tall trees on the far side of the road and scrubby trees and bushes on the right, lower side. On the back of the postcard is a written message that has been obscured with white-out. -

B&W postcard, 'Gembrook Train Leaving Fern Tree Gully'. The postcard has a photo of a level crossing at Ferntree Gully. The down train has just cleared the crossing and a large group have either just crossed the line or are about to. One woman is carrying an umbrella. A horse-drawn carriage is in the process of crossing the track, obscured by a large shrub. There is a warning sign at the crossing saying 'Railway Crossing, Look out for trains'. Behind the train is a hill with scattered trees. The photo has a patterned, printed frame around it. On the back of the postcard is a written message. 'Am sending ad/vanced birthday/ cards to the/ little girls with/ love. Had a letter from Addie last/ week. A.S. Hunt' and in the address panel, 'Mrs W. Upton/ Wyndham/ Werribee.' A postage stamp has been removed from the card, obscuring the date stamp. -

Please let me know in letter when it will be delivered. Address (obscured) Madigan c/- Mrs H. Currie, 11 Princess St, Seddon.” The woman is Margaret Madigan, nee Brady, wife of Patrick Madigan The couple lived at Menzies Creek. -

Her dark, wide-brimmed hat is trimmed with flowers. She holds a dark clutch bag and has dark shoes. There is an elaborate corsage pinned to her dress. She is wearing what appears to be crocheted cotton gloves. -

Photograph of Puffing Billy train halted near the tanks below Menzies Creek, where drivers would take on water. The hill behind rises up to Black Hill Rd. In 1953 a landslide fell onto the tracks in this area, leading to the line's 9 year hiatus. -

Photo of the Madigan potato crop in a paddock below their home. The photo is taken from School Rd, looking east across the valley in the direction of Menzies Creek station. On the left is the ridge where Black Hill Rd is and on the right the ground slopes up towards the school after School Rd makes a right-angled turn. Beyond the peas are a cluster of trees, the lowest of which are blue gums. -

Photo of Madigan house. Patrick Madigan built this house shortly after his arrival from Lysterfield in 1878. It replaced an earlier one-roomed hut. The house survived into the early 2000s when it was destroyed in a fire. -
