Osborne House was used as a Naval College from 1915-1917 it was served as a Naval Convalescent Hospital, followed by the home of Australia's first submarine fleet (1919-1924) and a training base during WW2.It is possible this photograph taken in 1920 shows a crew from the submarine fleet. This photograph is historically significant, it represents use of the building by the Navy and was taken onsite at the training facility. The crew and dogs are wearing a variety of clothing suggesting they were performing or having a break from work. He was a popular and well respected member of the community especially the Mitcham Anglican church. His father served in WW1 and after Alwyn's death in WW2 his sister and mother venerated his memory by keeping all his effects. The Rats of Tobruk Association, Inc, Victoria was formed in September, 1945. The Association was open for those Servicemen who had Served at, and during, the Longest Siege in British Military History - the Siege of Tobruk - 240 Days, between April10th and December 10th 1941 in WW2 and who were fortunate enough to return to Australia at the end of hostilities. Of approximately 14,000 Australians involved in the Siege of Tobruk, 559 were KIA, 2450 were WIA and 941 became a POW. Brown wooden lacquered shield with the Rats of Tobruk Association symbol (brown rat on gold circle with white ad gold scrolls surrounding with the name of the association printed upon) overlaying a yellow T below a crown. The original idea to create a monument was conceived by William Cameron. The monument was first constructed of cement block tiles and was a memorial to all those who served in WW1. Later gates were added to the precinct in memory of those who served in WW2. Restoration of the Memorial took place in 1995, with the original tiles being replaced by replaced by re-inforced concrete. Mt Macedon Memorial Cross is a significant War Memorial in the district. ANZAC Day dawn service is held at the Mt Macedon Cross, it is an impressive setting.Glazed precast cement block coloured to resemble sandstone, mounted on wooden stand. The Bendigo Ordnance Factory began operating in 1942, producing heavy artillery and naval guns. In the late 1990s the then Federal Government-owned facility was sold to the multinational Thales, which continues to operate the factory today. This Bendigo Historical Society collection of glass negatives includes some slides of women working in the munitions factory. Seven slides were included in an album that was prepared for Dr Edith Summerskill who visited Australia in 1944 as part of an Empire Parliamentary Delegation. The album included photographs of Australian women working at the factory during WW2. A copy of the album is in the Collection of the Australian War Memorial.Box 1 of 3, Glass Slide Negatives of the Bendigo Munitions Factory, later known as the Ordnance Factory and then the Australian Defence Industries. Each negative is sealed between two pieces of glass. The edges are sealed with thin pieces of tape. 1950's era could also be used as a chamber pot. Hoffman's Brick and Tile Company was established in 1862 in Brunswick. They began making pottery in the 1930''s but after WW2 the focus shifted back to bricks and tiles. They were best known for their ranges of Art pottery with Australian motifs. A circular cream coloured ceramic object. It's 14 centimetres high and 27centimetres in diameter at the top. The base is 18 centimetres in diameter extending up 12 centimeters to a 20 centimetre diameter. There is a two centimetre wide and one centimetre deep grove extending out with a one centimetre wide and 2.5 centimetre high rim.
