The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. The Tawonga branch of the C.W.A. commenced on the 7th Feb. 1946 and often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve health, welfare and education for women and children in the country. Women living in Tawonga were mostly on farms and, in 1946, when the branch commenced would have been feeling more remote with WW11 having an effect on available workers and the well being of the women and children.Slim rectangular shaped gold badge with a 'v' shape at each end. Jessie STEINFORT Steinfort was Studied Graphic Design at the University of Ballarat (later Federation University) After 12 years of working in design studios and advertising agencies, Steinfort is now a Senior Designer at Ogilvy Melbourne. And previously, he has been responsible for work on BMW & Mini, Carlton Football club, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, AAMI, Yarra Valley Water, and Arts Centre Melbourne. From 2008 to 2011 Steinfort was lead designer and front-end web developer at clickDM (now HARDWIRE). Where he worked with such clients as HOSTPLUS, GSK, UniSuper and Swann Insurance. From 2000 to 2008 Steinfort was a designer at Mediation Communications working on print and interactive projects for; City of Melbourne, City of Greater Geelong, City of Port Phillip, Mentor Education, and ACMA. The medal was awarded to Trooper John Garbutt of the Prince of Wales Victorian Volunteer Light Horse (Ballarat) in 1880 for attaining fourth prize n the sword competition. In 1862, the units of the Mounted Volunteer Corps in Victoria were formed into a single regiment known as the Victorian Volunteer Light Horse. This title changed again in 1863, to the Prince of Wales Victorian Volunteer Light Horse ( Hussars ). In 1870 a uniform was adopted that was based on the British 19th Hussars. Troops were based at various times at Geelong, Ballarat, Kyneton, Bendigo, Castlemaine and Dandenong, as well as metropolitan Melbourne. In 1885, most of the Cavalry were incorporated into a newly formed Victorian Mounted Rifles. Mein's 1964 History of Ballarat College states: 'To summarise, it may be fairly claimed that the College's War Record in 1914-1918 would have reflected great credit on a school with ten times its numbers...Some of the credit of the college war record must be attributed to the influence of Major John Garbutt, M.A. who was Principal of the College for 33 years...Nearly all the old Collegians who distinguished themselves in the war had been trained by him.
