Joseph ran the Epping Hotel, Victoria, Australia from 1891 until his death in 1903. Alice then took over the running of the hotel until her death in 1907. In 1886, the present site at 24 Camp Street, Ballarat was agreed upon and land was granted to the committee in the name of the Ballarat Trades Hall and Literary Institute.
