Emma Keys was born in England in 1842 to parents Charles Keys and Mary Ann, née Black. She married George Henry Smith in 1860, after which they sailed from Liverpool bound for Happy Valley. Emma and George Smith had fourteen children. Anthi Chilianis and her husband George lived in this house at 4 Hotham Street, South Melbourne for fourteen years from 1945 to 1959. They left the house when the family went to live in Ithaca. The house now houses a printing business. It was Anthi's favourite house and she and George often sat on the balcony drinking Greek coffee.
