Set of three cuttings from The Courier, Ballarat dated Thursday 11/7/2002 regarding the reintroduction of trams to Ballarat. 2241.1 - Page 1 and 2 of The Courier, with page 1 titled "Return of trams viable study" and "New Push for Trams" as the commencement of a Special report showing a digitally constructed image of No. 13 in Lydiard St. North. Note the tram does not have a driver. Introduces reports by Alex Easton on pages 2, 6 and 7. On Page 2, titled "Taking tourism to the next level", has details of the Council viewpoints on the proposal, public consultation, a map of the route, and notes on the construction issues. Has a digital image of 13 crossing Sturt St. into Lydiard St. North. See images No. 1 to 3. 2241.2 - page 6 of The Courier, which joins with page 7 using the titled "More tourists, more jobs expected". Has Sections reviewing the study outcomes, benefits and a summary of the study. Page 6 has a photo of a passenger boarding No. 21, decorated as the Myers Christmas tram in Sturt St and a photo of Bridge St. in 1971 (very poor quality reproduction). Seventy two page photocopied document within card covers and outer plastic covers with an additional introduction page between front clear plastic cover and card cover bound with a white comb binder. Book titled "Tramway Permanent Way" presenting a series of lectures by MMTB Per Way officers in 1928 at Hawthorn Depot. Contents in order: 1. Handwritten note from Chris Jacobson on Metropolitan Transit Authority of Victoria memo paper forwarding a copy to Warren Doubleday of the BTPS in Feb. 1988, with date received stamp at depot of 19/2/1988. 2. Photocopy of a memo on Metropolitan Transit letterhead from K. C. Painter dated 20/7/1987 to the Civil Engineering Design drafting staff forwarding a copy of the 1928 lectures to the then current staff. 3. Photocopy of a circular from J.P. Strickland, Chief Engineer to track inspectors, sub overseers, overseers and senior gangers advising that a series of weekly lectures on track work would be held at Hawthorn Depot commencing 23/1/1928. 4. Catalogue No. 206 of the J. G. Brill Co. of Philadelphia PA, titled "Brill Trucks" on front cover and "City and Interurban Trucks" on page 1. Comprises: Card cover very light grey on outside, grey inside which is a larger size than that of the rest of the book. Has the names of the J. G. Brill associated companies (American Car Company of St. Louis, G. C. Kuhlman Car Co. of Cleveland Ohio, Wason Manufacturing Company of Springfield, Massachusetts and Compagnie J. G. Brill, Paris France) as well. On the inside of the front cover and on the inside back cover are patterns involving the Brill logo. To the printed catalogue is a matching out 4pp again with the same Brill logos. This sheet is the same size as the text pages. Forty page printed text on a heavy gloss manila colour art paper. Front cover gives details of Brill's office addresses, and agents, including the Australasian agent - Noyes Brothers. Page 3 gives an introduction to the quality of Brill trucks and page 39 gives an index to the various trucks and components. Each truck type has a photograph, parts list and dimension details. Trucks covered are: Radiax, 21E, 22, 22E, 27E, 27F, 27G, 27MCB, 39E, 50E. Equipment detailed are the Half-Ball brake hanger, oil retaining center bearing, standard journal (axle) box, solid forged side frames and axle data. Page 38 details the information to be provided when ordering trucks. Image of each sheet added 25/3/2015.On front cover, date stamp of ESCo, Ballarat "1 Apr 1914". Yields information about the accident that involved a tram hitting a tree after being derailed and amount of damage done at the time.Black and white photographic reproduction print of a photograph that appeared in The Age Newspaper on 3/12/1941 of an accident involving Ballarat Tram No. 24 running away following a collision in Drummond St. South and hitting a tree at the corner of Dana St. on 2/12/1941. Photograph has the heading and caption. Made in March 2000 by the State Library of Victoria from a copy of the newspaper held in their collection. A similar photograph also appeared in the Courier. The Age copy was in better condition. Hi Res scan added 25/3/2011. Significant in being a detailed set of instructions for parking trams, hand overs, relief, responsibility for the security of the tram, including leaving the tram unattended. Regrettable incidents have happened. Issued 1961. Reg item 3459 has a more detailed set of instructions.Single foolscap sheet titled "Special Order to Motormen (49/1)" giving instructions regarding 1) Responsibility (for trams), 2) Relief on the road, 3) Controller key, 4) Air brake handle, 5) leaving tram unattended. Page 1 - Sunday, p2 - Saturday, p3 - weekdays. Gives IN and OUT times for each route and notes if from depot etc. Understood to be SECV photocopy. 285.1 - ditto, but actual wax stencil copy on duplicating paper used by Driver / Conductor J. Everett. Has been folded into 8. This copy used in image files. Item added 2/2/2003. 285.2 - ditto - three copies of SECV copies given to the BTPS at the time of closure. Produced by the North Sydney Boys High School Railway club, prior to the closure of the Ballarat system - little else written and published at the time about the history and details of the system. A very good booklet for the time - produced entirely by the wax cut stencil process. Has a strong association with the people who prepared the document.Twenty page booklet on the history, operation and tramcars of Ballarat, produced by the Nth Sydney Boys High School Railway Club in July 1971. Printed on a wax cut stencil process, with green covers, drawings, maps, track layout, fleet list, gives tentative closure dates, route descriptions, sketches, stapled on edge. Title "The Ballarat Tram". Stapled on the left hand side. Three copies held - 3rd copy added 22/10/05. 4th copy added 11/10/2007 and image of cover added as well. pdf image of copy added 2/11/13 - to produce the scan, copy 2 was unstapled and filed loose - may not open properly in dbtext. find file and open directly. Depot, particularly for BTM No. 671, during visit of 3 & 4/96, covers controllers, safety, motor cut outs etc. 303.1 - found in tram upon return to Ballarat - 13/5/1996 303.2 - good condition copy ex Peter Winspur. Check on box contents 25/8/01 showed that 303.2 has been removed elsewhere or is missing. Two colour pamphlet describing the history of the Australia's first electric tram service - Box Hill to Doncaster in 1889. Pamphlet folded into 3, with 1 photo and copy of timetable. Includes notes on brochure preparation and other facts about City. Printed on off-white paper, with a reddish brown colour for headings and photo background.
