Quinn CollectionA self-folding letter (0878.a) headed 19 Luxemburg Gardens, Hammersmith, W.6 and dated 02/07/51. The letter is typed using black ribbon. It is addressed to Mr Allan Quinn, C/- General Delivery, Post Office, Oslo, Norway. The return address is Mrs B. J. Hannon, C/- S.M.H.E.A., 1 Regent Street, Picadilly (writer's spelling). Below the return address is typed "Our telephone number is Riv. 1770 but in case of our moving Barry's business address is above and the number is Whitehall 3985." Below that is an Oslo postmark.Letter commences "My dear Allan," and concludes "With love from Pat." 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection
Functional object - Mug
Lieutenant Colonel J.M. Allard was Commanding Officer of 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles 1959 - 1962. He had served with 2/4th Armoured Regiment in World War Two. In the post WWII Citizen Military Force, he was a squadron Commander in 4/19 Prince of Wales's Light Horse before being promoted to command 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Pewter tankard with 4/19 Prince of Wales's Light Horse badge and engraving on side. Two copies of a seven page pamphlet titled the Elsternwick Club 1898-1984, written by E E Hackett, on the history, development and founding of the Elsternwick Club. The file also includes a five page typed manuscript of the pamphlet. Also included in the file are the Honorary Membership certificates of F Campbell and A J E Campbell, awarded for the 1986-1987 season of the Elsternwick Club. The file also includes one page of typed notes on the history of the Elsternwick Club with accompanying handwritten notes, dated 1981 and signed by Betty Snowball and C Pullman. The file also includes a one page printout of an email from Jan Brooks to the Glen Eira Historical Society, dated 19/10/2009, regarding the history of the Elsternwick Club, her family’s connection to the original club owners and general information about her family. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created as part of a project from approximately 1966-1972 by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. This album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia Victoria and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Photographers Jenny O’Donnell and Trevor Hart, members of Caulfield Historical Society. Some photographs are older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated. From Victorian Heritage Database citation for HO60 Stanmere/Elsternwick Club, 19 Sandham Street Elsternwick https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/35422 as at (1/11/2020) An imposing single storeyed stuccoed Boom period Italianate villa residence, distinguished by its bayed and pedimented projecting wing and central portico with surmounting pediment and urns. The cast iron verandahs, to two elevations, have tessellated floors and are partly built-in.
