Wooden shoes are / have been widely used in North-Western Europe (Scandinavia, parts of Germany, UK, The Netherlands, Belgium and Northern France). The models vary from a wooden sole and toe covering (Scandinavia, UK, Northern France) to a complete cover of the whole foot (The Netherlands and parts of Belgium). They are mostly made from poplar wood, but occasionally also from other softwoods like willow. The clogs' finish varies from plain wood or carved wood to varnished or painted versions, often with decorations. Edward Thomas Warren arrived in Victoria in 1852 and joined the police force in 1856. He served in Geelong 1856-1864 before coming to Bendigo, where he remained until his death in 1892. He had retired from the police force in 1886. He had been a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters for 25 years. This fraternity aimed to provide social and financial support to members during sickness, death, old age, unemployment and disability.A 44 page document detailing the history of the local Warren family. Most notably the Senior Constable Edward Thomas Warren whom worked at the Sandhurst Police Barracks where it is currently leased by Bendigo Senior Secondary college.

Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants.
