An album of photographs with some postcards compiled by Wal Jack, a Ballarat tram and rail enthusiast of Bendigo and Geelong tram photographs. Some photographs are duplicated in the Museum's holdings.Has a strong association with Wal Jack and tramway developments until 1964. Tram services closed the following Sunday. The 8 page feature in a single sheet of newsprint, with one half printed upside down to the other half. Sandhurst and Electric Tramways Company introduced the first trams to Bendigo in June 1890. These were battery operated trams but it soon became obvious that the battery life was unable to copy with Bendigo's hilly terrain. The trams were converted to steam in 1892. In 1899 the tramways were sold to the Electric Supply Company of Victoria and in 1903 the trams were converted to electricity. After WW1 the SEC was formed and took over the running of the trams. With the increased usage of cars, patronage of the trams began to drop off after WW2. In 1972 the tramways closed as a commuter service. Steam trams operated in Bendigo 1892-1902. They replaced Battery operated trams that could not cope with the hilly terrain of Bendigo.
