The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. Upon its return in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion. It was disbanded following the end of the war. 20th Light Horse was the only light horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII. The bridge has a large advert for Wolfe's Schnapps - "for your health sake". On the left-hand side are two policemen talking to each other. There are four horse-drawn carts and one open-top motor car. In the background are Queens Bridge Motors Pty Ltd building and the Queens Bridge Family Hotel. The Bendigo Easter Fair was established in 1871 to fundraise for the Bendigo Hospital and the Bendigo Benevolent Asylum. Donated by the Sadner family who were associated with the Bendigo Hospital, these family snap shots capture the regalia and atmosphere that the Chinese community bring to this community event. The photograph shows a Northcote 6 window cable tram trailer being hauled by two horses to a new home - to act as a summer house for Cr. Plant of Northcote. The first shows a horse pulling a bogie tram trailer into the car house while the second shows the grip being pushed in by hand. Prior to that its location at the junction of the Diamond Creek and the Yarra River made it an important meeting place for the Wurundjeri people. The park combines formal elements and sporting facilities with remnant bushland that is of environmental significance. It is home to sporting and horse riding clubs, popular play spaces and the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway, which attracts large numbers of visitors. The park will be the venue for our July excursion which will comprise a walk of about 3.5 km around the park and adjacent areas. Along the way we will discuss the history and natural history of the area. The path along the creek and the river provides a pleasant and scenic walk. This walk on Saturday 1st July is about 3.5 km in length and will take 2 to 2.5 hours. It will start at 2pm at the Main Road car park at the front of the park. (Melway ref 21 H 10). This sign was removed in about 2021 when works began on the building of an intersection to replace the roundabout at Fitzsimons Lane & Main Road. Photograph of Fitzroy, Northcote & Preston Tramways Trust (FNPTT) R class tramcar No.1 northbound on single track in Plenty Road, Preston approaching a double track loop south of Bell Street. The photograph looks southward showing an unsealed road surface with a few horse drawn carts, span poles and overhead wires, tramways overhead light above loop turnout and low density shop fronts. While this tramcar and track were constructed for the FNPTT, the line was only operated by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board from 1920.
