A postcard in a series produced by the Rose Stereograph Company in Victoria, Australia as a souvenir of Marysville.A black and white photograph showing a panoramic view from Wych Cross which was a guesthouse in Marysville. The Wych Cross Private Guesthouse was part of the Wych Cross Private Hotel Co. Ltd of which Mr. Felix Jellicoe was Managing Director at the time. The guesthouse burnt down in a fire on the 14th of November, 1926. This fire started in the kitchen where it was soon extinguished by one of the employees. However, it is believed that sparks from the earlier fire, which were not noticed at the time, ignited the second fire which destroyed the weatherboard guesthouse in 20 minutes. An early black and white photograph of Glover Walk which was off Lady Talbot Drive in Marysville, Victoria.An early black and white photograph of Glover Walk which was off Lady Talbot Drive in Marysville, Victoria. Glover Walk was named after Hannah Elizabeth Glover, a nurse who in 1908 established the Kerami guest house in Marysville. She became an active member of the local tourist association and was acclaimed for her 'energy and enterprise' (Riverine Herald, 31 December 1915). In this capacity she successfully lobbied government to fund walking tracks in the district, one of which was given her name. Lady Talbot Drive is a 24 kilometer scenic rainforest car journey which passes a number of walks and waterfalls in the Yarra Ranges National Park. Lady Talbot Drive is named after Lady Sarah Elizabeth, the wife of Sir Reginald Talbot, who was the Governor of Victoria from 25th April, 1904 to 6th July 1908. The Scenic Bed and Breakfast, along with all the guest houses in Marysville, was destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. Darwin Street was named after Charles Robert Darwin. Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist, widely known for his contributions to evolutionary biology. His theory that all species of life have descended from a common ancestor is now generally accepted and considered a fundamental concept in science. In a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace, he introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.
