Schuss was advertised as Victoria’s Official Ski Journal It was issued monthly from 1935 to 1961 except during the war when summer issues covered two months. This continued after the war, but it averaged 10 issues annually over its 25 year life. Schuss was published by the Ski Club of Victoria which had a membership of 38 Ski Clubs and demanded to be recognised as the prime authority on skiing in the state. The other 30 ski clubs with 85% of the members disagreed and the politics of skiing became heated. These clubs formed the Federation of Victorian Ski Clubs with their own journal, Ski Horizon. With the establishment of the Victorian Ski Association, Ski-Horizon published its last issue in Nov - Dec. 1955 and the role of the official journal was fully taken over by “Schuss”. This item is significant because it contains stories, images and information documenting the development of the ski facilities at Falls Creek.The journal features stories and events chronicling developments in Victoria and internationally. The cover features an Eric Burt photo of the Eastern slopes at Hotham with Feathertop in the distance. Page 293 has a photo of John Robertson of Myrtleford Ski Club who was chosen to lead the Australian Ski Team in New Zealand for the Inter-Dominion Contest in September. Page 296 announced that Mt Beauty was judged as the leading town in Victoria for Tourists in the recent City Development Association's Premier Town Contest. Page 300 included the results of the NEDSA Championship held at Falls Creek in August. Reference is made to the proficiency of Fred Griffith in producing copies of the results for all involved. Page 303 featured the Swiss Cheese Fondue Recipe from the opening of the Ski Club of Victoria Rooms as requested. It also included an article "A week at Sky Line" written by Junior Member Keith Sloane. Page 305 provided the results of the N.E.D.S.A Junior Championships held at Falls Creek. Page 311 featured an article "Off the Beaten Track' written by J. L. The Kew City Hall, designed by the architect Harold Bartlett of Leith & Bartlett, was opened by The Premier The Hon HE Bolte on 23rd April 1960. Notable is the wooden partition which enabled the Hall to be divided into two halves, as well as the decorative brickwork. The Town Hall faced Cotham Road in front of which are standing returned soldiers. Invited seated and standing guests have their backs to Charles Street and the lawns of South Esk. The speaker would appear to be the Deputy Premier, and local Member for Kew Arthur Rylah MP. Behind the Official Party [but unseen] are the two Memorial plaques by George Henry Allen (1900–72). In the distance are the Kew Presbyterian Church and the Sacred Heart Church. Agreement and Subscription Schedule for Drainage of the Garden Gully Reef 1871 2 pieces of lined A3 paper folded to make a 4 page book bound with string. Document handwritten in black ink on blue lined paper with red margins. When closed the book was then folded in 4 to create a pamphlet. The document has extensive notes written in pencil, which are difficult to read. The document also has two water marks. On the cover page is a crest with the initials EE underneath. All other pages have the second which reads R. Barnard 1850. The document makes use of 2 types of seals, a red wax seal and a variety of stamps which indented the paper. William Grant Junior was President of the Shire of Bacchus Marsh in 1901 when the Australian Colonies federated to become a federal nation state. Grant was a member of a prominent local family and was active in public affairs throughout his life. The federation of the Australian Colonies was a turning point in Australian history and as such its achievement was celebrated in a range of ways. A major step towards achieving Federation was the referendum of July 1899 which saw five of the six Australian colonies vote in favor of Federation, with Western Australia later voting in favor in 1900.Printed poster sized document certifying that William Grant of Bacchus Marsh voted in a referendum of Victorian electors on 27th the July 1899 on the question of an Australian Federal Constitution. The body of the certificate text is surrounded on three sides by captioned photographic portraits of the Premiers of the six Australian Colonies. A British coat of arms is at the top of the certificate and at the bottom is an image of Parliament House in Melbourne, which includes a Dome, which was a projected feature of the building which was never actually added to the Victorian Parliament building.Across the top of the certificate: 'Australasian Federal Referendum July 1899'. In the centre: 'This is to certify that the question of an Australian Federal Constitution was submitted to the Electors of Victoria on the 27th day of July 1899 and that out of a Poll of 103,783 votes 152,653 were cast in favor of such Australasian Federal Constitution and further that William Grant, voted at the said election'.
