This is a copy of a photograph of Dr Ian 'Spud' MacLeod Murphy c1960s. Dr Murphy retired to Clematis in 1947 intending to breed turkeys but instead responded to the community need for a GP. For the next 34 years, he was Emerald's GP working seven days a week and travelling all over the hills without assistance.Dr Murphy was Emerald's first and much-loved GP. His work for the community over 34 years was of immense benefit. The clothing once belonged to members of a family who migrated from Faversham, Kent, England to Sydney, Australia in the late 19th - early 20th century and was passed down through the family. Percy Andrew Goulburn MAKEPEACE No.3558, enlisted 5.8.15 aged 19 in 8th reinforcements 21st Bn AIF, embarked 29.12.1915 for Eygpt. Transferred to 57th Bn. KIA 24.9.1917 while a Bn runner. He was killed by shell fire while moving to 58th Bn near Polygon Wood.
