The 'Preface' (last page) states that in 1961 the town would celebrate its centenary and, also, that it lost its official identity (amalgamation with the Shire of Korong). Newspaper clippings of 'Chemistry Teacher dies', Mr Richard Gaston Walker, died 14/01/?? A chemistry instructor, 50 years of teaching, he was known world wide, during WW1, he was given an important post in England handling chemistry projects in the war effort. On his return to Australia, he became attached to the Bendigo Technical College,(known as the School of Mines) for more than 40 years. Forty-one faded gold edge page book with 'Album' stamped in gold on front cover used as Autograph book. Poetry and hand drawn art works date from 1908-15. Enclosed notes dated 20th July 2009 indicate that book was owned by Nora Ronald of 183 Wattle Street Bendigo, born 1892- 1968 and donated to BHS by Ron Hook 2/2 Gordon St Port McQuarrie via Ralph Birrell. Illustrations and poems with some containing WW1 aspects provide a valuable insight into one of Bendigo's socialite 'young lady's' interests.
