Else-Lore and her mother Else Oertel were German internees in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. The German Red Cross sent items to the internees in the camps and this tin of chocolate was one of the items given to the Oertel family. Else-Lore Hukins donated the item, which she describes as a 'treasured item'.Round metal tin with plastic-wrapped cake of chocolate inside. Chocolate has Hildebrand inscribed in centre with picture possibly of two knights on horseback. Tin has cream/tan lid with dark brown base. Clothing. Men's black woolen bathing suit. Rib pattern in woolen fabric. Overskirt at front-to 6cms above gusset. Black and white V pattern fabric strip on side seams, forms keepers for belt. Woven cream fabric belt with silver plate buckle. Applique emblem of sailing yacht on lower left-hand side of skirt. The bathing suit belonged to Flight Sergeant Richard Harry Adams of Brighton. He was reported missing during an operation near Scilly Islands and was presumed killed on 03/10/1943. The certificate was presented to Mr Hughes after he had helped to collect 500,000 pounds for various charities, including St Vincent's Hospital. The certificate is accompanied by a letter from the item's donor which summarises the achievements of Mr Hughes.Certificate is printed on paper which has been glued onto thick card. Certificate is printed in grey, cream, yellow and dark blue and featuring black and white photographs of St Vincent's Hospital. The names of the recipient and Mother Rectress have been written in black ink.
