Photograph - looking from Summerscales offices onto the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard St during an event, with a parked ESCo tram and crowds or onlookers on either side of the south side of Sturt St. Has a detailed image of the tram. C1909. In the background are Craigs Hotel, C. Marks & Co, National Mutual building, Snows, and the Town Hall. Several horse-drawn vehicles are in the photograph. Also, A. E. Casley Chemists and Beath Schiess & Co, though this seems to be almost printed into the photograph - above the chemist shop. The postcard has been sent to Miss N Sproston of Skeleton Cottage, Avoca. Has a 1d Victoria stamp and has been postmarked 14-5-1908. Photo shows Geelong tram 40 Mercer St, city end. The tram has the destination of North. In the background is a typewriter shop, R J Reynolds? Shell service station and S G Winkler Service station with a Neptune sign. The driver has his hand on the air brake and the controller with the front driver's window open. One of a set of photos was taken between 15/2/1956 and 3/3/1956 when services operated only between Belmont and North before the final closure of the Belmont route on 25/31956 and that bogie tram 31 is not shown on the board, having gone to Ballarat on 15/2/1956 - see item 5554. Postcard, Valentine & Sons Publishing Co, "Moorabool Street Geelong", early 1950s
Postcard produced by the Valentine publishing company of Moorabool St looking north at the corner of Ryrie St. Tram No. 33 is picking up passengers at the safety zone at the intersection with Ryrie St where the front of another bogie tram can be seen. In the view are the T&G building, the Bank of NSW which has a chemist shop, and the Savoia cafe. The rear of the card notes it is a genuine photograph. The card number V24 is the same number used in item 9064, but a later version, the early 1950s. The note on the rear of the card gives details of Ken's Victorian trip during Jan 1954.Yields information about the view of Moorabool St at Ryrie St early 1950s.Black and white Postcard undivided back, unused. The property includes a two-storey mansion, which he built as his family home in 1881. Carn Brea, a castle in Cornwall, was built in the 1500s. After the Queen's Church of England Girls' Grammar School acquired the property in 1919, the mansion was renamed Manifold House. Manifold House now accommodates administrative facilities of the campus and staff offices. Black and white photograph of SEC Ballarat No. 21 decorated as the Ballarat Base Hospital's Trambulance in support of the Hospital's Yuille House Remodelling Plan, $50,000 appeal. Photographed by Bob Prentice at the Mt. Pleasant terminus on 13/5/1969. Tram is painted white - based on the Myer's Christmas tram of 1968 (See Reg. Item 1881) and the 1969 Begonia Festival (See Reg. Item 1886). Tram has destination of "Mt Pleasant", a sign under the driver's windows "Give till it hurts" and under the headlight "TRAMBULANCE". On the side of the tram has various images related to the hospital, roof advertisement board "Ballarat Base Hospital $50,000 Appeal - Yuille House Remodelling Plan" and on the base of the sides "Keep with the Pace Support the Base" sign. Photograph taken by The Courier - photo taken 27/10/1971, published 28/10/1971 of the Removal of tramway overhead wire, Bridge & Main Sts corner. shows an SEC bucket truck with a workman removing the signalling cabling, with a policeman at either end of the truck providing traffic control. Shows the track in the street and the overhead junction. In the background is Gears Chemist, a fruit shop (Fruit Palace), Bank of New South Wales, and a Kodak advertisement on the chemist building. SEC Tram 17 and a former bus used as a food vendor stand, that has finished up in the front of S.E. Dickins Pty Ltd. (Grocers) store 1/10/1949. The tram derailed at the intersection of Sturt and Grenville St. collided with the bus and pushed it into the front of the store. Many people standing around the incident, including two trammies in front of the tram. Thought to be a Ballarat Courier Photograph. Wal Jack's caption advises the Bedford van was a doughnut kitchen. 1020.1 - added 3/06/2006 - small newspaper cutting with the same photo and a caption "While the driver was picking up lunch at Ashkar's pie shop, his tram ploughed into Dickin's grocery, on the present site of Norwich Plaza". Probably from The Courier, and date unknown. 1020.3 - as for 1020, from the Jack Richardson Collection with Wal Jack comments on rear. Comments on rear - see btm1020i4. Yields information about one of the first two maximum traction bogie trams in Ballarat in October 1945 after it had been repainted for use in Ballarat by the SEC and a little photographed single truck tram No. 24. Plaque - Memorial Plaque, Ballarat Branch and Lucas Girls, 1946
The Ballarat Branch Committee and girls of Lucas & Co. raised the money for the memorial window in Good Chapel of Saint Peter which is dedicated to the men of the Jervis Bay and all Merchant seamen who gave their lives in the world wars. To see a picture of the actual window go to VC database Mtsv record 0035.Regionally based support across Victoria provided crucial funds to the Mission for Seafarer welfare, activities and operations. This support was very often sourced either through a country Auxiliary group based in places such as Ballarat, Camperdown, Hamilton, Bendigo and other similar towns or centres. Op shops and CWA, Church Auxiliaries and other similar charities mainly operated by the womenfolk of the respective communities, recognized the vital importance of 19th and 20th C Merchant and Military Naval services to the development of Australia.
