Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: SILK BLOOMERS, Late 1800's
Clothing. Waist band 10 cms deep at side seams, dipping to a 16cm peak at centre front, and 15 cm deep at centre back. A plackett on the left hand side fastens with two metal press-studs, and a metal hook (probably a metal or cotton stitched eye, but this area has been damaged, and no eye is visible). Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: FINE LINEN PETTICOAT- LACE TRIMMED
Clothing. Extremely fine linen petticoat, rounded neckline with a blue satin ribbon insertion, threaded through a lace insertion. This ribbon is now badly aged and shedding and splitting. A plackett at the centre back conceals six tiny 9mm covered buttons, and machine (?) stitched button holes. The neckline is outlined with three bands of cotton lace - the first band is 4.5 cm wide, and has a 'shamrock' leaf design. The middle band is 1.5 cm wide, and has a 'twisted' design, which holds the blue ribbon insertion. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: CRINOLETTE, 1870's
Clothing. Cream polished cotton, full length half slip petticoat. Plackett at the back, fastens with two metal hooks, and hand-stitched loops. The back features a 'crinolette', where two rows of tapes are gathered in to give volume to the back of the garment. As the crinoline started to subside at the end of the 1860's. The centre front panel features 6 angled bands of lace 4.5 cm wide and angled to form a V shape. (1) A 9.5 cm band of pleated linen gauze-like fabric, edged with a 5 cm band of linen lace. (2) A 15 cm double layered frill-top layer 2 cm wide silk like pleats, lined with linen muslin type fabric, and an under frill of polished cotton, pleated in one cm wide knife pleats. The top frill is of fine cream cotton lace. At the top edge is a 3.5 cm wide band of floral cotton lace, and adjoined at the lower edge with a 9 cm deep pleated trim of exquisite cotton "floral and swirls" lace. The top frill is 42 cm wide, and extends over the centre front panel only. A cotton covered " stiffening- possibly bamboo or whale bone, extends 31.5 cm ;long at the crinolette. An unusual 'pocket like bag' is sewn into the right side seam 14 cm below the waist. This has rounded corners, and is 8 cm wide at the top, 17.5 cm wide at the lower edge, which is then rounded slightly. Clothing - HANRO COLLECTION:NIGHTGOWN, 1950's
Peach coloured nylon nightgown made by HANRO Bendigo. Bodice gathered at front onto a plaited band under the bust. On each side of the band three ties (102cm) extend from the ends of the plaited band. Shoulder straps made up of three pieces of nylon tubing attached back and front and plaited over each shoulder. Back of bodice in two pieces. Ankle length A line skirt. Colour at bodice is pale peach colour that darkens as it descends to the hem where it becomes a deep orange colour. Nightie given to donor by her grandmother who received the nightie as a prize at a Hanro meeting. Clothing - CREAM SATIN AND LACE WEDDING DRESS, 1850
High waisted bodice, with centre front seam, back opening fastened with metal press-studs, and finished on the right side, with ball-shaped pearl buttons sewn in pairs - six groups of two. A placket extends into the skirt at back, and is fastened with metal press-studs. Bodice is gathered onto skirt at waistline, and defined with a 1.5cm wide tape. An 8.5cm wide cotton lace frill is gathered around the high neckline. The wrist-length sleeves are an extension of the bodice and have a 4cm band, and 4cm wide gathered frill at the wrist. The sleeves are shaped from the high waistline, and also at the cuff edge. The skirt has an overlay of fine lace, made up of six X 17cm wide bands of lace, with a scalloped edge. No shoulder seams. Back opening and centre front seam indicate the cutting out layout of fabric. A one cm wide ribbon finishes the neckline, and the lace frill is hand stitched to the ribbon. Clothing - CREAM WEDDING DRESS WITH EXTENDED TRAIN, 1930's
Long lily-pointed sleeves, fastened at the wrist with six X 0ne cm covered buttons and loops. A firm padded roll 19cm long, and eleven cm circumference sits at the shoulder at top of sleeve. A gathered panel on either side of the neckline forms a sweetheart neckline. Gathering under the bust, and a A shaped centre front panel - with V shape at lower edge-panel 33cm long. Two semi-circular panels 28 X 19cm from side seam to the centre front, and defining the shape of the peaked centre panel. A small inverted pleat comes from th ebottom peak of the centre panel. Skirt is circular and extends into a sweeping train.29 covered buttons with loops extend from the back neckline to the curved join at the hipline of bodice and skirt. A one cm band of fabric has been machine stitched around the hemline, and hand rolled and hand stitched to give weight and finish at the hemline. Clothing - BURGANDY AND CREAM BODICE, 1850's
Burgundy and cream fine striped cotton, with a woven floral motif one cm in diameter. High 4.5cm stand-up burgundy collar, with a lace overlay. A pleated, and padded cap extends from the underarm seam at the front, over the shoulders, and partway over the back panel. Sleeves tight fitting at wrist, fasten with five buttons and button holes.(Four present on one sleeve, three on other sleeve).A fine burgundy pleated band finishes the sleeve at the wrist. Waistline is V pointed at front and back. At front pleats are stitched down 11-13cm long, then open up to form shaped, folded effect at the bust line. A burgundy yoke sits behind this effect, and extends over the shoulders, and high neckline. Clothing - FINE BLACK AND CREAM CHECK SILK FULL-LENGTH DRESS, 1850's
Very fine black and cream check silk lined in the bodice and sleeves with fine grey silk. Long sleeves are finished with a 4cm deep cuff, trimmed with a double row of cording, and a 1.5cm wide pleated frill. Two black shiny buttons trim the cuff(possibly plastic), which fastens with three press-studs. Waist is defined with one band of corded fabric. Two bands of cording outline the V neckline, which is also finished with a pleat frill. Cording, and three rows of hand - gathering outline a shaped frill at the hemline-alternately 31cm and 46cm deep. Seven black buttons fasten the front of the bodice. A placket extends into the skirt, fastened by four press-studs. Skirt has four knife pleats each side of the centre placket. Four knife pleats at each hemline, and six at centre back. Clothing - BROWN STRIPED LONG SKIRT WITH OVERSKIRT (PART OF TWO PIECE OUTFIT), 1908
Full length skirt, with a three-quarter length over-skirt, edged in braided embroidery. Over-skirt is attached at the waistline, with a band of tape, and separates on the left hand side waistline. Stitched to the underskirt at the front, and edged with a .5cm dark olive coloured braid. The braid extends around the hemline of the overskirt in a looped pattern. Fabric has a woven stripe-a narrow stripe of lighter colour, and a .75cm stripe of dark grey edged with tan. Skirt fully lined with brown cotton fabric. Centre back plackett fastens with one large metal hook and eye, and six smaller hooks, and hand made cotton loops. Skirt has matching bodice 11400.744. This two piece outfit - skirt and bodice, was made by Laura's Mother in 1908, and mostly by hand. She wore it also to Mass in 1913. Clothing - BROWN STRIPED BODICE WITH LACE TRIM(PART OF TWO PIECE OUTFIT, 11400.743 AND .744
Long sleeved bodice of ''resilda'' fabric. Long sleeves gather into a 9cm deep cuff. Cuff has a 4cm wide band, which is embroidered with a silk braid and floral embroidery in dark olive and a deep cream. A 5cmdeep band of floral cotton lace, in deep cream, trimmed at the edge with the braiding, completes the cuff. The same lace forms a 6cm deep stand-up collar, which is edged in a narrow velvet band of brown velvet. The back and front yoke is edged on the sides, with the same embroidered net as the sleeves. Braiding in a loop design underlines the bib shape, and also decorates the shoulders and upper sleeves. Sleeves are joined at the elbows, and decorated with braid. Bodice is pleated at the lower centre front to from a V shaped fitted waist. Back has a double plackett opening-the inner having ten hook and eye fasteners, the outer having three hooks and three hand made loops (as well as nine hooks and hand made loops on the back lace yoke). This two piece outfit-bodice and skirt, was made by Laura's Mother iv 1908, and mostly by hand. She wore it to Mass in 1913. Clothing - SHORT SLEEVED EMU CREEK BUSH BAND T-SHIRT, 1990'S
Clothing. Mid blue/grey cotton/polyester fabric, with a round neckline, and 8.5 cm long placket at centre front, which fastens with three plastic, 1 cm diameter grey buttons. Below the placket the logo of the Celebrated Emu Creek Bush Band and the caricature of an Emu's head, are portrayed in a shield shape. A cotton tag at the back neckline gives the size XL, while a larger cotton tag has L.BAKER, 054 41 7555, perhaps the maker or the screen printer. A 7 cm long split at the lower edge of each side seam. Clothing - HOSKING AND HUNKIN COLLECTION: TODDLERS NIGHTGOWN, 1880
Clothing. Fine white cotton lawn nightgown. Round neck, with back opening. 12 cm deep yoke, and tiny cap sleeves of embroidered cotton. A V shaped panel of embroidered cotton at the centre front of the yoke. A drawstring in a casing fastens at the back neckline. A tiny .75 cm button, fastens the back yoke. Nightgown is machine stitched, with some hand stitched decorative stitching. The long skirt has two bands of narrow tucks-one tuck of 1.04 cm and six bands of .04 cm. This is edged with a band of hand stitched embroidery. This band of tucking is repeated, and edged with a 6 cm wide band of eyelet embroidery. This panel is repeated with the lower edge of embroidered cotton finished with a scalloped shaped edge. A scalloped braid edges the neckline. Skirt is two-tiered-top tier very finely gathered to yoke is 15 cm deep. Lower tier is 71 cm deep.costume, children's, toddlers nightgown. -

Clothing - CREAM SILK WEDDING BODICE, 1900-1910
Embroidered silk, with a swirl type embroidered pattern. Wide, and deep square neckline. Back opening with nine metal hook and eye fasteners. Seven 16cm long bones encased in ribbon - three in the front, and two either side of the back opening. The wide square neckline is edged with 4.5cm wide fine lace - (two narrower pieces stitched together). Five .5cm wide tucks border the front and back neckline. The sheer embroidered tulle sleeves have a silk panel under arm. Shoulders and sleeve cuff are trimmed with a feature of artificial roses and leaves - roses 2.5cm diameter. A 17cm frill extends from the back opening, passing under the armhole, across the tucked border at the neckline to the back opening of the left side. This frill is also trimmed with the artificial roses at 10cm intervals. The bands of lace that trim the neckline also border this frill. Stiffened circular shaped shields are stitched under the armhole, and on the adjoining under arm of the sleeve. Pink chenille type tufts interspersed on embroidered silk overlay. Clothing - CREAM SILK FULL LENGTH ( WITH TRAIN) WEDDING SKIRT, 1900-1910
Very fine embroidered silk, three tier skirt - silk embroidery in a swirl design, and featuring small tufts of pink silk. Front placket, and narrow 1.25cm tape waistband. Metal hook and eye fasteners, and two metak hooks at back waistband to fasten bodice. Back sweeps into a small train. Two rows of joined lace form three panels from waist to lower tier. This lace also forms two L shaped decorative panels on upper section of skirt. Lower edge of silk lining has a band of stiffening, which then has an 18cm wide band of pink silk lining the hemline. This pink fabric matches the pink tufts on the fine silk outer layer, and possibly protects the finer fabric at the hemline level. Clothing - LADIES BLACK SATIN BONED BODICE, 1880-1900's
Ladies black satin boned bodice. Centre opening, fastened with eighteen metal hooks and eyes. Waistband 2.5cm wide with eleven vertical fabric encased bones attached. There are two bones on either side of the front opening, bones on each side seam and five bones across the back. There is a decorative two cm wide ribbon attached to the RHS of the waistband that extends across the front of the bodice to the LHS with a seventeen cm black ribbon bow attached. This is fastened to the RHS waistband with a metal hook and eye. There are two decorative pin tucks across the waistband at the back of the bodice. The bodice and sleeves are lined with brown cotton fabric. The 6.5cm stand-up collar is lined with dark green cotton fabric. The shoulders seams and eight of the bone casing are reinforced with black cotton fabric with green and pink checked edging. The long sleeves are gathered at the shoulders and shaped at the elbows. Clothing - LONG VICTORIAN SKIRT WITH PLEATING AND LACE, 1870's
A light ''camel coloured'' long silk skirt, with plain ''darted'' front and pleated fullness in the back. Two darts on either side of front, but some evidence that some alterations may have been made-possibly once three darts on either side, six pleats in back skirt. three either side of centre placket. Back waistband fastens with two metal hook and eyes. One metal press-stud in back placket appears as a later addition. Three 9cm deep bands on 1.5cm wide knife pleating circle the hemline. A band of ruched silk, edged with a band of 4cm deep lace is scalloped over the top layer of pleating. Clothing - VICTORIAN FULL LENGTH DRESS, WITH TRAIN, 1860's - 1870's
Green and gold shot silk dress. Hemline is edged with a binding of black velvet - one cm wide. Bodice lined with cream linen, sleeves lined with cream cotton, skirt lined with cream linen(?) or cotton(?). Long sleeves are shaped in a ""semi-circular'' shape at the elbow, and taper in at the wrist. Sleeves are trimmed with green fringing, and a flat green satin bow. Wrist is trimmed a 2cm wide band of cream cotton lace. Top of sleeve at shoulder is also trimmed with green and fringing encircling the sleeve top.High round neck is faced with a 1cm band, and a row of the cotton lace. Two bands of fringing give a rectangular "style'' effect on the front bodice, which is fastened at centre front with ten metal hooks, and nine hand stitched ''holes'' to fasten, and one hand stitched loop at the neckline. Fringing continues over the shoulder, into a 5-sided shape across the shoulder blades. Skirt has two pleats on RHS front and two on left hand side of back and a 7cm centre panel of tight pleating. Clothing - VICTORIAN SILVER STRIPED LONG SILK DRESS (MATCHING SET WITH 11400.964), 1870's
Fitted bodice with 1.5 cm deep stand-up collar. Long curved sleeve, tapering at the wrist, has a fine piping around the armhole. Wrist is trimmed with a piped, plain silver peaked false cuff, and two 3 cm deep pleated and piped ''frills''. Three covered buttons trim the diagonally cut decorative cuff. One metal hook, and hand stitched loop on the stand-up collar. 23 covered buttons ( one missing,others in various states of disrepair) extend from the neckline to the lower skirt. Front skirt is trimmed with a 7 cm deep band of plain silver silk, bordered by the striped fabric piping, and a 3 cm deep pleated frill on either side. Below this is a 25cm deep band of the striped fabric, at the lower edge of which are sewn four X 5 cm deep bands of pleated frills. At the centre back neckline are two X 20cm ''tails'' curved at each end and lined in plain silver silk. These are to be wrapped around the neckline, and fastened with a metal hook and eye, to form a 4cm deep rounded silver collar. Skirt back extends into a 34cm deep train. Brown cotton tape binds the hemline. Front of skirt is ruched from the centre buttoned section, in three sections either side, to the centre back panel, which is pleated, and extends into the train. Ladies grey blazer worn by Heather Pain as Pipe Major of the Ladies Pipe Band Bendigo. Grey woollen single breasted blazer. Grey satin lining across shoulders at back. Long sleeves lined with yellow and black striped cotton fabric. Body of blazer unlined. Three pockets on front-one on either side at hip level. One LHS breast pocket with red embroidery shield containing thistles, leaves and crossed swords. The pocket has a 1cm tartan bans across the top. Hip level pockets and lower sleeves have 1.5cm bands of red corded ribbon. Front opening is fastened with two X 2cm grey plastic buttons.
