Photograph - Black and white of ESCo tram 8 towing a former horse tram as a trailer. Tram 8 has been fitted with windscreens and is in a one-man operation configuration with the rear entry closed off. There are passengers in the tram but there do not appear to be any in the trailer. Given that the weather blinds of tram 8 are drawn or closed, it is likely a winter day, and possibly the trailer is being used as the bicycle transfer car between the depot and the city office. The photographer is not known. Features photo of the opening of the tramway to Lydiard St. North, Norman St in 1937 and Leo Grant, depot worker, working on the undergear of Ballarat No. 19. Notes the number of staff employed, Mr. L. J. Denmead as Superintendent, 67 motormen or conductors, four inspectors, a senior inspector, 12 track men and 12 depot workers and a number of traffic clerks. Historically significant for at the time it demonstrated aspects of the evolution of Ballarat Tramways and yields information about the formation of the tramways, the Councils viewpoint and has a strong association with the Mayor of the time.Twenty two page book, produced by photocopying, side stapled and bound with a red plastic binding, titled "Mayor's Special Report Ballarat Tramways", dated 20 September 1971 for presentation to the City of Ballaarat Council Meeting 27 Sept. 1971 and signed by the Mayor, J.A.Chisholm.
