Nails such as these were used for building purposes, probably in the construction of house and shed roofs. The jar has no significance, being a discarded household item used to contain the nails. The nails have no known local provenance but are of interest as they date back over 100 years and are retained to show the type of nails used in the past.This is a glass jar with a ridged base and a metal screw top lid. There is etched printing on one side of the jar. The jar contains many old metal nails, possibly handmade. They are mostly rectangular in shape with flattened heads. This item would have been used up to a 100 years ago to store ink for writing purposes and would probably have been carried by a person travelling. Pen and ink for writing purposes have been superseded firstly by fountain pens and in today's age by ball point pens.This item is retained for display and research purposes because of its quality and age. This is a round mottled brown leather container with a silver rim near the top and a hinged lid with a metal clip fastener. There is small knob on the container that opens the lid. Silver plated (?) medical syringe used for injection purposes. This syringe is re-usable consisting of two main components; a cylindrical body with an attachment for fitting a needle at one end and a plunger which fits inside the body, the plunger is attached by screw thread to the other end of the syringe body. One face of the plunger is graduated in units with major markings indicating 5, 10, 15 and 20 units (perhaps ml?). The plunger has a screw thread along its length with a threaded stopper which can be pre-set to determine the volume of an injection. This syringe is contained in a purpose built silver plated (?) container with a hinging lid. A small cradle fits within the container to hold the syringe parts, two small cylindrical tubes (use unknown) are retained within the inside of the lid of the container by a swivelling clip.The container has the mark "BRITISH MADE" stamped into the side face nearest the retaining clip used to hold the lid closed, the mark "LONDON MADE" is stamped on the end of the plungerww11, world war 2, syringe, medical syringe, re usable syringe, world war 11

This would separate it from other mail and protect it. A satchel would enable the mail to be collected by different people using modes of transport.This brown leather rectangular satchel is well worn with stitching around the perimeters of the front and back where it is attached to the side pieces. The back piece extends a little at the top where it is stitched to a reinforced piece that has a curved handle covered by steel and fastened with a stainless steel plate with rings. The leather then continues as a flap also stitched to the piece with the handle. The satchel is fastened with 3 large press studs.The sides of the satchel extend and fold into the inside and can be fastened to each other with a large press stud. This may be to protect the contents. At the front centre a transparent pocket is stitched on presumably for identification.
