The Canadians developed a machine that used "ping pong balls" instead of cylindrical incendiary capsules and, in 1977, the FCV purchased a Premo machine for evaluation. The 32mm-diameter balls were made from high impact polystyrene and contained 3.5g of potassium permanganate. They were injected with 1ml of glycol which would ignite after a short delay The first Premo machine used four slipper blocks, which were loaded via a hand-operated hopper which, when rotated forward, the balls would be fed into four feed chutes to individual slipper blocks. Each slipper block has an opening allowing individual balls to enter and exit once injected. The original design of the machine was not suitable to meet the burning objectives and a number of modification were necessary. Following close inspection and field testing it was clear that utilising four slipper blocks was excessive and would generate too much fire. It was acknowledged that satisfactory spacing could be achieved by using just one slipper block. Selective spacing could be achieved by the speeding up or slowing down of the slipper block transferring the capsules during the injection process. Regulating the speed that the injected capsules were being dropped controlled the amount of fire created on the ground. The Kew City Council Depot was for a period situated on the corner of High Street and Disraeli Streets. The photo from the former City of Kew Municipal Collection was taken by a photographer from Stuart Tompkins Studio in Camberwell.One of four black and white photographs (perhaps reproductions) of a horse and cart and a council employee in Parkhill Road, Kew. In a number of photos the cart has K.C.C., in large letters on its side. It is presumed to be the city garbage cart No.3 which was stationed at the old Council Depot on the corner of High and Disraeli Streets. Miss Eliza Bromby was Principal of Ruyton Girls’ School, 1888-1910. She shared her Principalship with business partners Mrs Louise Gubbins & Miss Lilian Irving 1888-1895, and Miss Emilie Lascelles 1900-1910. Ruyton Girls' Schools was founded in 1878. From 1889-1920 Ruyton was located on the corner of Abeckett and Barry Streets, KewBlack & white photograph of Principal Miss Eliza Bromby, with the students and staff of Ruyton Girls’ School, in 1909. The group is arranged in four rows of seated and standing individuals, with the school’s main building behind them. The photograph has been mounted on grey card. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries.
