Clothing. Infant's cream coloured satin silk bonnet. Embroidered sheaf of flowers on the back of the crown. Back edge trimmed with one cm lace. Front edge of bonnet has two triangular fold back tabs edged with lace. A pleated fabric frill is stitched across the top of the bonnet underneath the stitched down tabs.The front edge of the bonnet is trimmed with a double frill of white silk fabric. Clothing. High round neck at back, with peaked revers at front. Press-stud closure at centre front, with three grey plastic buttons sewn to outside.(two missing). Button is impressed with a circular pattern. Short sleeves. A 4 cm wide panel increasing to 5 cm at centre front is set into front waistline, and extends into a belt at the back-3.25 cm wide and fastening with a metal press-stud. Six gored skirt. Almost certainly home stitched, as several dresses in the collection are of similar style. An oval shaped patch, 16 cm X 8.5 cm has been hand stitched immediately below the centre front waistline. Centre opening, fastened with press-studs. Three decorative buttons are sewn diagonally, side by side on the outside of the opening (X2). Side fronts are gathered to the yoke, and have two darts on either side front, at the waistline. Short set in sleeves. Six panels form the A-line skirt. Some hand stitching on facings and hems. Clothing. Women's black lace and satin layered skirt. Straight calf length skirt with outer layer of embroidered fine net and an inner layer of black satin. Embroidered layer has pattern of scattered flowers with lower 30 cm of dense embroidered flowers. At centre front is a vertical strip of embroidered flowers (5 cm wide). Hemline has a zig zag pattern. Foldover satin waist band (1.5 cm) with two X .8 cm satin loops attached at front and back. Clothing. Very fine cotton petticoat with a fitted bodice, and dropped waistline. Back opening fastened with six 1 cm diameter buttons - three are fabric covered - (possibly the original buttons) and three plastic ''pearl'' buttons. The square neckline is outlined with 2.5 cm deep cotton lace inserted with 1.5 cm wide satin ribbon tied in a bow at the centre back and front. A row of very fine cotton lace, 1.5 cm deep then edges the square neckline, and also the arm holes. The back bodice is shaped in six panels, and front bodice is shaped in three panels. Three panels of embroidered cotton lace extends from the front neckline to the bustline. Outer panels are 5.5 cm wide and 7 cm long, while centre panel is 11 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. Each of these panels is outlined with the 2 cm wide cotton lace. From the dropped waistline, a 2.5 cm wide cotton insertion lace is threaded with 1.5 cm wide satin ribbon. The skirt is lined with fine cotton, finished at the lower edge with a 5 cm wide gathered cotton frill,and an over- frill, 14 cm deep of spotted tulle, edged with a 1.5 cm band of cotton lace. The outer skirt is spotted tulle in four bands- separated by four 3.5 cm wide bands of floral patterned lace. The hemline is trimmed with an eleven cm deep band of floral lace with a lower scalloped edge. Clothing. Very fine cream net, embroidered around outer edges, in a semi-abstract, floral design - 4 cm deep, and finished at the top with a small 3 mm diameter ''spot''. Overall the embroidered design is 5 cm deep. A second layer, ruched at the centre back neckline, folds down over the lower layer, giving a double embroidered effect. Clothing. Pair of short, men's gloves, with three 6 cms long pin-tucks fanned out across the back of the hand. Wrist edge of the glove is bound in the glove fabric, giving a .5 cm binging, which continues around a 7 cm opening at the inside of the wrist. Object. A 5 cm long ribbon, woven in a heavy weave, with a .75 cm red vertical stripe on each side, and a 1.5 cm vertical light blue stripe in the centre. Three .75 cm bands of brass metal - a shaped strip at top and bottom of the fabric, with a rectangular shaped clasp in the centre. These three clasps have decorative engraved patterns. The lower clasp- called a suspender, has a circular hook at the bottom, from which is suspended a circular brass fitting, holding a metal link, which is attached to a four sided shape, with letters in a circular shape - HTWSSTKS, Lodge symbols are on each side of this perspex shaped hanging. Object. A 5 cm long brass pin at rear, to attach to a uniform. A clasp .75 cm deep, 4 cm long is in navy blue enamel, with gold lettering 'LIFE GOVERNOR'. From this clasp a 5 cm long light blue grosgrain ribbon holds a brass clasp or suspender, from which hangs a circular medal, with five star points. On a circle shape of dark blue enamel are the words:FREEMASONS HOMES OF VICTORIA.In the centre on a light blue enamel background is the Lodge Symbol of Compass and Square. Clothing. White linen camisole with peplum 8.5 cm deep. Round lace yoke at the front, with a panel for a ribbon insertion. Some evidence exists on the right front, that once there was a pink ribbon - possibly silk, but now there are only a few threads left. The insertion panel continues around the back neck edge. Two panels of three .5 cm tucks run from the neckline to the waist of the centre back. Front opening, with two 1 cm pearl buttons still evident, and a cotton tape and casing at the waistline. Clothing. Wide scooped neckline, edged with 1.5 cm deep cotton lace. The centre back opening is fastened with six tiny pearl shell buttons .8 cm in diameter- top button is fastened with a loop. 1.5 cm deep cotton lace trims the neckline and armholes. A .5 cm cotton braid trims the lower edge. Nine floral embroideries and pulled thread work 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm are spaced around the rounded front neckline. Below these embroideries on the left side breast, are embroidered the wearers initials-(M) MB. The owners initials are embroidered on the left front in a decorative manner, to compliment the floral embroidery. A lace ribbon, one cm wide at the waistline passes through 1.4 cm eyelets 2 cm apart. Clothing. White fine linen fabric, trimmed at lower leg with a 2 cms wide cotton , brooierie insertion and a 12 cm wide frill of textured (?) fine linen or cotton lawn broiderie. The front waistband dips to a central 8 cm deep peak. Waistband at side seams, is 4.5 cm deep and back waistband is 10 cm deep at side seams, and the 11 cm deep at centre back. Two 1.4 cm covered buttons close the back waistband. The knickers have a gathered opening panel, called at the time a ''drop-seat'' or ''access hatch'' at the centre back. This panel has a 5 cm deep waistband, fastened at either side by a covered button, and a third button at the centre. These buttons are sewn to the back waistband, and the button holes are sewn, correspondingly on the gathered back. A drawstring tape is also threaded through the back waistband. Clothing. Ladies' collar. Net fabric, entirely sewn into 'pin-tucks' .5 cm deep in the high stand-up collar, and increasing to 7.5 cm at the lower edge of the jabot front. Opening at the back, the jabot is fastened by nine metal hooks, and hand-stitched loops. Collar has a tightly gathered double frill of the tulle fabric, at neck and is held up right by five 'covered' 'bones'. The lower edge of the front and back is edged with a 1.5 cm wide silk fabric frill. Centre lower edge of back has two 59 cm long silk ribbon ties. This ribbon is also attached to the lower edge of the jabot 58 cm and 60 cm long - presumably for the wearer to tie firmly in place. Neckline seam is re-inforced and neatened by an organdie type fabric, hand-stitched in place. Two fine elastic loops (now perished) one 52 cm, one 58 cm would once have helped to hold the jabot in place, with the arms passing through the loops, to keep the jabot in place. Detached sleeves. Net fabric, entirely sewn into .5 cm tucks. Reaching from the wrist to above the elbow. A double net frill edges the wrists, where a 6.5 cm opening, fastens with metal hooks and hand-stitched loops. A cotton tape, .5 cm wide neatens and re-infrces this seam, and a row of chain stitch, in silk thread embellishes the outer side of the seam. Clothing. Circular, on a gold metal frame, with a gold (badly tarnished) brass chain handle. A small beaded brass clasp closes the bag. Three small .5 cm pearls sit on top of the clasp, one in the centre of the beaded clasp, and two other groups of three pearls on top of the frame, with tiny white, pink and green beads - possibly silk brocade, has an all-over floral design in cream, pink, and dull green, on a cream background. The bag is lined with cream satin and has a small internal side pocket. Clothing. Cream polished cotton, full length half slip petticoat. Plackett at the back, fastens with two metal hooks, and hand-stitched loops. The back features a 'crinolette', where two rows of tapes are gathered in to give volume to the back of the garment. As the crinoline started to subside at the end of the 1860's. The centre front panel features 6 angled bands of lace 4.5 cm wide and angled to form a V shape. (1) A 9.5 cm band of pleated linen gauze-like fabric, edged with a 5 cm band of linen lace. (2) A 15 cm double layered frill-top layer 2 cm wide silk like pleats, lined with linen muslin type fabric, and an under frill of polished cotton, pleated in one cm wide knife pleats. The top frill is of fine cream cotton lace. At the top edge is a 3.5 cm wide band of floral cotton lace, and adjoined at the lower edge with a 9 cm deep pleated trim of exquisite cotton "floral and swirls" lace. The top frill is 42 cm wide, and extends over the centre front panel only. A cotton covered " stiffening- possibly bamboo or whale bone, extends 31.5 cm ;long at the crinolette. An unusual 'pocket like bag' is sewn into the right side seam 14 cm below the waist. This has rounded corners, and is 8 cm wide at the top, 17.5 cm wide at the lower edge, which is then rounded slightly. A Vshaped over-lap-13 cm deep at the centre front peak and sewn into the waistband, has a metal angled lodge symbol at the centre front. This symbol which has a circular blue enamel shape at the centre, is repeated in the corners of the lower edge. Two 5 cmx16cm long blue ribbon tabs hang from under the V shaped panel, and have a 5.8 cm x 1.3 cm metal fitting at the lower edge. Object. Rich royal blue grosgrain braid, 10 cms wide surrounds a rectangle of cream kid leather, 21 cm wide x 24 cms deep. On this rectangle is an embroidered wreath of foliage in gold and orange coloured thread, embellished with gold metal thread, which also outlines an embroidered bow, at the base of the wreath. In the centre of the wreath, a looped bow is embroidered in thread, and embellished with the gold metal thread. Two gold coloured metal decorative shapes are placed, one on each side of the lower edge of the leather. Two 5 cm wide tabs, adorned with a heavy lodge symbol, including 4 cm long brass metal chain, with ball decorative elements, hang from the waist, and fall to 3/4 length of the leather panel. A peaked flap 9 cm deep is attached from the waistband, and falls loosely over the leather panel. It is also adorned with a brass metal lodge symbol. Object. Blue, damask weave fabric sash, 240 ms long(including fringing) woven with a rose design, and with a .8 cm wide white satin-finish stripe, just inside the side edges. A gold type metallic fringing, 5 cms deep, finishes each end. A woven panel just off centre of the sash, includes eleven figures, including children, three shields, a globe hand and heart. Radiating from the words- FRIENDSHIP LOVE AND TRUTH is an eye like shape, radiating light. At the lower edge of the panel, woven into the fabric are the words, MANCHESTER UNITY of the INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS. Above the woven panel is an ornate metal star, 10 cm x 10 cm, with eight points, and made from silver metal sequins and coiled wirework. Centre of the star is padded to a height of 1 cm, covered in satin, sequins and wirework in a circular shape. A 7 cm long metal tassell hangs from the lower edge of star.
