Archive (Series) - RIMINGTON Family
Various PartiesReference, Research, InformationArranged by Secondary Values (value of records to users)The Rimington Family were early settlers of Kew, acting as pioneers for the area. George Rimington, who immigrated at some point during the mid-to-late 19th century, is well-known for his work at the Parkhill Nurseries, situated between Mont Victor and Burke Road. This nursery played host to multiple plants, shrubs, and trees otherwise not seen in the area and became well-known in the area for that fact. The file includes: A transcript of an interview with Stanley Rimington, son of George Rimington, and a book from Parkhill Nurseries which details the flora present at their Kew location but also the area.rimington – kew (vic.), george rimington – kew (vic.), stanley rimington – kew (vic.), pioneers – kew (vic.), parkhill nurseries – kew (vic.)rimington – kew (vic.), george rimington – kew (vic.), stanley rimington – kew (vic.), pioneers – kew (vic.), parkhill nurseries – kew (vic.) -

Queen Bee Cage, Mid 20th Century
The queen bee cage is designed to hold a queen bee, and up to three or four escort worker bees. The design allows for adequate ventilation, and has a spot for 'queen candy' -candied honey- to block one end. The queen is placed in her new hive inside the cage, and once the queen candy has been eaten through -allowing her access to the hive- the hive has become accustomed to her smell and accept her. Bees could be sent through the post in this cage. Used by a beekeeper and provided by Mr Richard Diss (beekeeper's son). The cage is significant because it was made with metal and wood. The more contemporary cages are now plastic and of a different design and specifications.Mesh cage stapled over wooden lid with metal strut and top and bottom metal bands. Base is larger than lid. Lid has metal cap.queen cage, nursery cage, bee travelling, mailing bees, beechworth honey, beekeeping -

Book - Gullivers travels into several remote nations of the world, Ward Lock and Bowden, ????
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift is a witty and insightful satirical novel recounts the history of Lemuel Gulliver, "First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships". In his travels Gulliver visits the Land of Lilliput, where he towers over the local inhabitants, the land of Brobdingnag where he is much smaller than the citizens, the floating island of Laputa, infested with fanatical scientists who in their obsession with reason behave with no sense at all and finally to the land of the brutish Yahoos who look to all intents and purposes like humans and are derided by the intelligent horse people.
