The dwelling is representative of the development of the Georgian Revival style in the 1920s and 30s and its popularity amongst the upper-middle classes as a result of the work of William Hardy Wilson and Professor Leslie Wilkinson. It is of importance as a fine and largely intact designer/builder example of the Georgian Revival style, with American Georgian Revival influences. The dwelling embodies the principal characteristics of the style. American Georgian Revival influences are noted in the deep eaves with modillions, central broken pediment, brick quoins and presentation of the central porch. The garden wall, with arched opening, in the side setback appears to be an early or original landscape feature, based on the comparable brick work detail construction with that of the house. Considering this, it is the only early landscape feature extant which assists in providing some understanding of the original landscape layout of the property. Set of two brass manufacturing / data plates from the BTM Isolating transformer that failed Oct. 2004 and sent to ABB's Yarraville Workshop for assessment. Recovered from the transformer by ABB staff following inspection. Plates detail Manufacturer (State Electricity Commission of Victoria), ratings, connection diagrams, windings and date of manufacture (1931). These plates did not reflect the re-winding characteristics, but its original manufacturer. Transformer No. 1267. Each plate has four corner holes. It was the first locomotive fitted by roller bearings by SKF and featured in the SKF catalogue at the time. This interesting 0-6-0WT locomotive was built by Orenstein & Koppel in 1931 as their builder's number 12331, becoming No.3 in the locomotive fleet at the Sub Nigel Gold Mines Ltd, South Africa. No.3 was obtained by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society and imported to Australia in the early 1970s. It arrived at the museum on 30th Jan 1973. The official opening of the Obost Theatre was held on 20th August, 1931, opened by Hon. T. Paterson M.H.R. Thomas Paterson was Minister for Markets and Migration from June 1926 to January 1928. He was elected as the Country Party Member for Gippsland in 1922 and held the seat until he retired in 1943. In January 1928 his portfolio was changed to Minister for Markets and in December of that year it was again changed to Minister for Markets and Transport. Nance Gilbert was the sister of Mary Gilbert, Orbost teacher and historian.
