Document - VICTORIA HILL - THE DEEP MINES OF BENDIGO
Photocopied article titled 'The Deep Mines of Bendigo. Gold at 2, 070 feet'. From The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1954), Friday 16 march 1888, page 5. Article mentions gold being found at the greatest depth at which that metal has yet been obtained in Australia. Mentioned are the six deepest shafts in the Bendigo district. They are: Lansell's No 180, Victory and Pandora, Victoria Quartz, North Old Chum, New Chum Victoria and the Great Extended Hustler's. There was a deeper shaft at Stawell, the Magdala.
