Nominal roll of a small Australian Armoured Corps unit of World War Two (WWII). Raised at Puckapunyal, Victoria in January 1942 from members of the 2nd Armoured Brigade Group for service in Malaysia, but with the fall of Singapore before they could embark, they were restructured as the 2/2nd Australian Armoured Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron in February 1942. In July they moved to Greta, and in August to Narrabri to participate in large scale exercises by 1st Armoured Division. In October 1942 they were combined with the 2/1st Australian Armoured Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron and D Squadron 2/11th Australian Armoured Car Regiment to form the new 2/4th Australian Armoured Regiment. There have been a number of municipal depots in the former City of Kew (now part of the City of Boroondara). This perspective sketch by Dorner Rice Pty Ltd represents the original design of the depot at 31-35 Hutchinson Drive, on the grounds of the former Kew Mental Hospital. The large perspective drawing by W.A.D. Brodie in 1984 is an important record of the depot as originally designed.This architectural sketch is a key piece of evidence about public infrastructure developed in the former City of Kew. The former Baptist Church, at 8-12 Woodlands Avenue, Kew East, was nominated by the Society for protection as part of the Kew East Heritage Gap Study. W D Vaughan in his 'Kew's Civic History' (1960 writes that: "With the development of East Kew, local Baptists considered the establishment of a church was necessary. A block of land was purchased in Woodlands Avenue and the foundation stone of a new church was laid on August 8, 1931. Like other local government entities of the period, Kew was administered by town clerks. The two notable town clerks in Kew's history were H. H. (Henry Hirst) Harrison (1868-1955) and W. D. (William Dickie) Birrell (1899-1974). Harrison was appointed to the position in 1901 and retired in 1938 after 37 years. Birrell, appointed Acting Town Clerk in 1921, became Town Clerk in 1938, following Harrison's retirement. He continued in this role until his retirement in 1966. A large part of this collection of civic ephemera was assembled by W. D. Birrell. This is part of an historically significant civic collection, containing hundreds of separate invitations, documents, greeting cards, programmes and tickets issued and/or collected by successive town clerks. Items in the collection illuminate the political, social and cultural history of the district.
