The first cricket match at the Eastern Oval was held in 1853, and the first Australian Rules football match played on the ground was in 1866. W.G. Grace visited the Eastern Oval in the 1870s considering it the most English ground in Australia. The W.G. Grace Tree is located at the end of the historic grandstand. Former Australian Cricket captain Ricky Ponting has a tree planted at the oval also. Maryborough is a ground level premium station, featuring one side platform. It opened on 7 July 1874 The current station building was erected in 1890, with 25 rooms and a clock tower, of red brick with stucco trimming. At the end of World War One, there was a renewed interest in residential land and a number of estates opened up in the Municipality of Moorabbin. Shows tracks up the hillside with passengers riding in carriage down the short course railway at Kalorama. The railway was built around 1950, initially to carry building materials. It was burnt in the 1962 bushfires. Phil McClure gave a talk to the Historical Society 15/8/2009. Belgrave Railway Bridge seen from near railway line on the east side. Photo shows the bridge over a scrubby railway cutting. There are small trees. A truck is parked on the right side of the bridge and perpendicular to the bridge. To the right is a building, presumably US Motors. A sign visible on right end of the bridge is also visible on VSSHP0069.02.
