This photograph was taken in 1945, as WW2 was ending. It shows Orbost men who are members of the Orbost Football Club, their Club trainer, and Club President. Football has always been a strong and well-supported sport in the Orbost district, with two teams in Orbost, another at Newmerella and outlying localities. In the early hours of Tuesday 16 December, 2014 a water main burst in Liardet St. The resulting sink-hole swallowed two cars and left a massive hole which took 8 days to repair and re-open the road. Robin Boyd designed this three-seater sofa. The sofa was featured in the promotional brochure for Domain Park Flats in 1962. The original sofa was recovered from yellow upholstery to red in 1967 when the painting 'Man on Sofa' by Tony Woods (item A05) was purchased and hung. The original sofa is currently stored offsite. Post Office lane ran from Main Street to Reid Street, and much of it is now the car park for the IGA Supermarket. The Main Street end between the supermarket and the post office is closed to all but pedestrian traffic, and is now called Gollings Square. Brothers homes and Andrew Chirnside, who emigrated from Scotland, built the Italianate -style mansion on their Werribee property between 1874 and 1877. They were pioneering pastoralists who foundered the Chirnside Pastoral Empire. The Victorian Government purchased the property in 1973 and it opened as a tourist attraction in 1977 run by Parks Victoria. The Lady Nell Seeing Eye Dog School was founded at Wonga Park in April 1960. This plaque commemorates the official opening by Hon. T.W. This book presents a pictorial and written record of Warrnambool in 1891.It covers a wide range of topics. It provides statistical evidence relating to public buildings and organisations of that era, as well as basic information about district points of interest. The Mechanics Institute, the Common, Albert Park, the rivers, the Museum and the Sea Baths are all mentioned. The various drawings and advertisements provide a list of businesses which were prevalent at the time. As this book is one of only two complete copies documented to be still in existence, it is of considerable significance and importance to our collection. Portrait of Kelso Fragrance, the Junior and Grand Champion Shorthorn Heifer, exhibited by G. Starritt in 1960. George 'Ray' Starritt OBE joined the Society in 1957, with his father founded the Kelso Park stud, originally for sheep, in 1914. The small town in the photograph is the former Broadmeadows Township (now part of Westmeadows). It was situated on the Old Sydney Road (Mickleham Road) and 2 miles east of the Broadmeadows Station. The stone bridge in the foreground spans the Moonee Ponds Creek and Fawkner Street is the road, which leads southwards to Gladstone Park and Tullamarine.
