Document. Handwritten sheet of Bendigo Advertiser report of 26 Aug. 1856 and a photocopy of same. On Saturday last Messrs Bruce & Co. of the Metropolitan Crushing Works crushed two tons of quartz - from the claim of Messrs Faul & Co in Iron Bark, which yielded the large quantity of 180 oz. of gold. This was one of the first formal indications of the dissatisfaction among miners of the conditions on the goldfields, including the issue of licences. Over 5000 miners from Ballarat, Bendigo and Castlemaine signed the petition that was presented to Lt. Governor, Charles LaTrobe.
