Miniature bath shaped metal ash tray. On one side there is a rest for a cigarette. The bath shape rests on 3 ball shaped legs. Has been painted blue by the donor. Originally metal unpainted. The head end is higher - sloping down to the foot end. Presumably made by POW's during WW2. Given to Major and Mrs Rathven on their 25th wedding anniversary from the people he worked with at Dhurringile Mansion during WW2.Black leather case with gold embossed patterns around top edge of lid. Two brass decorative catches on front. Inside of the top of the case is lined with cream satin. The base is lined with black velvet. Six silver plated spoons with a green enamel bead on tip sit on the velvet base. Handwritten note loose in the top."Twenty five years of married bliss. Do your stuff - give the misses a kiss". This copy of the original was written by Lieutenant Hans Folter and Major Helmut Bertram. Hans who was captured Jan 22nd, 1941 at Solum near Tobruk North Africa along with Major Helmut Bertram. They were subsequently sent to Australia on the "Queen Elizabeth" and held prisoners of war at Dhurringile P.O.W Camp for German Officers, 1941 - 1947.
