The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Montrose Cottage was build c1856 by John Alexander, builder. He was a Scottish stone mason. It was built with bluestone and hand-made bricks. It is on the Historic Buildings Register, National Trust (Victoria). It is important as a substantial and very early stone cottage. The house is now open to the public. A black and white photograph of the Wallace house in Marysville in Victoria during winter.A black and white photograph of the Wallace house in Marysville in Victoria during winter. Jim Wallace was born in Dumfries in Scotland and emigrated to Australia with his family at age 6. He arrived and settled in Marysville in 1922 and ended up working for the Barton Brothers looking after their touring cars and their garage. He met Marj in 1928 and they married in 1930. Jim and another well-known local, Clarrie Smith, had spoken about showing the 'talkies' in the local hall and then subsequently had local builder, Harold Cuzens, build the Marysville Theatre in 1932. The Marysville Theatre was located on Murchison Street. The solid concrete building was used as a Theatre from 1932 to 1970. The building was then purchased by The Darmody Family and was used as an Arts and Crafts Centre for two years from 1975. The building was then purchased by Norman and Rosemary Fiske in 1977 and converted into a restaurant called The Pumpernickel. This building, along with most of the town, was destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. A black and white photograph of the Taggerty Butter Factory in Victoria.A black and white photograph of the Taggerty Butter Factory in Victoria taken around 1904. The Taggerty Butter factory opened in 1892 in the township on the Little River. It was run by the Kennedy family and built by J.B. Coombs of Acheron Station. Coombs was later Shire President. Milk had been previously taken daily to the steam-driven separators at Thornton. Upper Thornton. The cream was separated and the remains were taken back to the farms for the pigs and calves. Before these town separators existed butter had been made at home in a barrel, salted, and stored. The operation at Taggerty ceased in 1908 and the Alexandra Dairy Company took over production. The Log Cabin was built by Thomas Henry Branchflower who had arrived from England late in 1921. It was built for Gwendoline Pitman after the death of her father Clarence Pitman and the disappearance of her sister Olive in July 1926. Gwendoline operated an artist and souvenir shop in the newly built Log Cabin in partnership with Peter Mackey who was a Melbourne optician and artist.
