This set of 11 colour photographs of a Ceremonial Guard of Honour from the Army Survey Regiment was most likely taken at Russell Offices, Canberra in 1995. Most Guard of Honour detachments sent to Canberra performed the ceremony in the Blamey Square at Defence’s Russell Offices precinct. An identification label in the storage folder identified the parade was at an Australia Remembers 1945-1995 event, one of many activities designed to commemorate and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on 15 August 1945.This set of 11 colour photographs of a Ceremonial Guard of Honour from the Army Survey Regiment was most likely taken at Russell Offices, Canberra in 1995. These badges and buttons belonged to Major Charles Rogers, a well known Warrnambool personality of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. He was a Light horseman who was in the Guard of Honour for the Duke of Gloucester in 1934 when he opened the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance during the Victorian Centenary Celebrations. In Warrnambool he was a well known horseman leading parades and celebrations and judging equine events for the Warrnambool Agricultural Show. He died in 1961, These items are of interest as they belonged to Major Charles Rogers an important 20th century Army person. Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck.
