Album, Chatham-Holmes Collection: Family Photographs from 1930s and 1940s, 1930s-1940s
Photographs of the Holmes family at "Launchley" and places they visited. In 1934 they holidayed at "Whitehall" Guesthouse in Queenscliff. It is in Hesse Street and was built in 1926. During the Second World War it was used as a billet for the Women's Army Service.Brown covered album of 30 pages of thick brown card with 94 photographs pasted into it. Pages tied together with cord. Paper coming of cover. On the cover of album is 'Snapshots' in gold. The hall was transferred to Murchison after WW2 and was purchased by the Murchison R.S.L. as its headquarters in 1955. Book presented to the Museum from Tatura RSL showing the work that went into creating the Tatura Water Tower Mural. The Water tower on the north side, depict a full size picture of Sir John Monash in uniform. The south side of the tower depicts a thread of poppies. Sir John was the engineer who designed the water tower which was opened in 1912. A letter from Tatura RSL is in the book.White hard covered book. Front has two pictures of a water tower. One has poppies on it and the other a man in Army uniform. Also in the photographs is Colonel Joynt's army uniform just before it was donated to the Australian War Museum in Canberra. The photograph show legatees posing with the uniform that belonged to Legatee Joynt after an address commemorating Donovan Joynt VC on 24th October 1989. The army uniform was at Legacy House just before it was donated to the Australian War Museum in Canberra. An article published in the Melbourne Legacy Bulletin about the event contained the address given by L/ Holdsworth (01599). Other photos at 01604 show Legatee Holdsworth can be seen reading from the album which was compiled about the life of L/ Joynt VC (Cat.No. 01588).
