The Eaglehawk Croquet Club was founded in 1909, in premises vacated by the Eaglehawk Bowling Club. There are no records for the years 1910-1942, but the clubhouse was unlined with no electricity or water. During World War II memberships dropped to just 7 members, however between 1943/46 membership increased to 23. Electricity was connected to the Clubhouse in 1947. During the years 1955-58 the club rooms were rebuilt and enlarged. 1959/63 Life Memberships were presented and the club celebrated its 50th birthday with sister clubs and past members. Golf Croquet was introduced in 1975 and was played on Wednesdays (as is still the case today). The club celebrated its 90th birthday with the oldest member at that time - Nell Mitchell- cutting the cake and a stained glass window was also unveiled. Collection of newspaper articles and colour photo of Violee Davey, who was a student at Golden Square Laurel St. 1189. Violee was born on 10th June, 1906, to David and Margaret Davey, one of 16 ? Children. She was a volunteer at the Bendigo Easter Fair for 81 years. She received the Order of Australia Medal for services to community. Violee was the oldest living ex pupil at the 125h. Anniversary celebrations in 1998. Photo shows Violee cutting the 125th. Centenary cake, with Zac Allen, the youngest student. Photo is entitled 'youngest and oldest student' Article 'Happy days recalled' tells the story of Violee's days at Golden Square Primary and the celebration of her 100th. Photos from a 10th birthday celebration at a widows club, it is unknown which one. There appears to have been singing and merriment as well as cutting an anniversary cake. The lady cutting the cake is Billie Sims, who was president of the Melbourne Widows Club in the early 1990s. Photos were in a folder of photos from 1993.A record of the importance of the widows clubs as a social outlet for the widows that their 10th anniversary was celebrated.
