A black and white photo of a boy by a tent at a beach camp. It is labelled Somers Camp so this was a very early camp using tents, before camp buildings were erected. In the early years, Legacy organised outings to the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring close to the beach. Permanent camp buildings were built in 1930. In 1930 Lord Somers (Governor of Victoria) also started a camp at a nearby property and the area was renamed Somers. Legacy Somers Camps continued intermittently at Stan's property until it was decided in 1951 to make other arrangements for holidays. This photo was with a group of photos from around the 1930s from the early days of Legacy, including cricket team, football team, and camps at Balnarring/Somers (saved as 01915 to 01934).Legatee Savige's property at Balnarring became very important for Legacy providing outings and camps for junior legatees.Black and white photo of a boy with a bucket at a camp.Handwritten 'Somers Camp' in blue pen. George Kyriakides migrated to Australia on the 1 January, 1948, leaving his home country of Cyprus for the promise of new opportunities in Australia. His silversmith skills were learned from a young age, working with his father to supplement the family income. The Saracen Plate Company was founded in 1952, from small beginnings in the garage of his family home in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern. The business grew quickly and facilitated the purchase of the property at 152 Lygon Street, Carlton. This original dwelling on the site was demolished and rebuilt as both a workshop and living space for the growing Kyriakides family. The business was primarily a wholesale manufacturer and supplied prominent Victorian department stores and Jewellers, such as Myer, Dunklings and Prouds. The Saracen Plate Company specialised in a style of silver plate known as 'Sheffield Reproduction', which featured in many homes as commemorative gifts or serving ware. (Hunter, A. There was some gold mining in the Kiewa Valley and these buckets may have been used.Two small rusty looking steel buckets that are usually connected to a chain with many such buckets. Items in a collection relating to Edward Judd VX27958, enlisted 18.6.1940 age 40 years, embarked for the Middle East on 1.9.1941 and allotted to 2/7th Field Coy Engineers, disembarked Australia 27.2.1943, discharged from the 2nd AIF on 8.11.1945. His record shows he was classed has having 545 days overseas service, awarded the Africa Star but was classed as not eligible for the 1939 - 45 Star.This is basically a leather funnel tube. The large end has a curved circumference, with one side reinforced. It has a sewn leather hem. Half way down the "tube" is a leather band and strap assembly with two smaller straps riveted to the main tube. At the end of the strap assembly -is a rectangular hole and a small round hole. At the small end of the tube is an opening. It also has a sewn leather hem. The leather colour is dark tan. It is a rifle protector.rifle, bucket
