Information provided in 1993 by Russell McDonagh Bennett suggests these scales may also have been used at Dawsons Dam mine c.1907-1909.Beam scales used for weighing gold. Scales consist of two circular metal dishes, each supported by three wires suspended from a metal balance (beam), which in turn is linked to and supported by a vertical metal stand. A lever attached to the stand can be used to move the weighing dishes vertically and horizontally. The scales are mounted on a rectangular wooden box with a sliding drawer which is divided into three compartments.Maker's marks stamped on dishes, lever and stand. This six-postcard group is the seventh in a series of records of items in the collection of Edgar Dawson DCM. Dawson was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 57th Battalion, AIF. C Company of the 57th was composed of men drawn from Echuca, Eaglehawk and Bendigo. The postcards are from his personal album, and many are annotated in Dawson's hand with explanatory notes on the subject. Refer to Cat No 893 for his service details. Items originally in album cat. no. 207P These postcards illustrate the links between battalions, such as the 5th and 47th. 1. Group portrait of the Officers and NCOs of C Company, 47th Battalion. 47th Btn was drawn from Queensland and Tasmania, and C company was primarily Queenslanders. 2. Group photo of the signallers and stretcher bearers of 5th Battalion. Dawson note that Josiah and Norman Rolls, from Golden Square in Bendigo, are in photograph. 3. Group photograph of 57th Battalion medal recipients taken outside Exeter cathedral. 4. 57th Btn band 5 HQ Pioneers, 57th Btn, 8th of October 1917. Dawson notes that the man front row extreme right is 50 years old. 6. Group photo of some officers of the 57th Btn 1. On verso "A.R. Tweddell, 47th Battalion, C Company A.I.F" 2. This album contains photographs from a variety of sources in Scotland, England, and Australia. The date range of the photographers ranges from around 1847 to 1900. There are photos of families and individuals and some are obviously linked. This album has historic and social significance in that it appears to be a collection of family photographs which link areas of Scotland with the coming of early settlers to Australia and in some photos obviously to Warrnambool. They provide an overview of fashion and styles pertaining to the 1870’s through to around 1900’s and hence it has interpretive value.Brown leather bound hard cover with raised geometric design on the front. Back cover is plain. Edges of pages are gilded and closed with brass- coloured hinged clasp with keyhole. Contains numerous photographs of individuals and family groups. There are generally four to a page, with some empty spaces towards the back of the album. Inside front cover in grey lead 472 or/-. Certificate, Hawthorn Tramways Trust (HTT), "Hawthorn Tramways Trust - Certificate of Competency as Motorman", 1919
Bound book of 100 Certifications - "Hawthorn Tramways Trust - Certificate of Competency as Motorman". Consists of 100 pages of certificates, numbered 1 to 100, with butt of each certificate retained in the book. Bound with heavy card covers, red coloured on the outside of the covers, stapled with black binding material. Each Certificate numbered, in top left hand corner, giving date, employee name, date of birth and signed or initialled by the Engineer and Manager. In the top left hand corner of the book is printers logos - The Prahran Telegraph Printing Co, King St, opposite Town Hall, telephone 108W. Most certificates issue 29.12.1919. Certificates 1 to 58 issued by HTT 59 and 60 issue with HTT crossed out and MMTB written in. 61 to 75 and 92 to 99 removed from book and No. 100 removed altogether. No. 74 is loose.
