The Sunday School Scholars Anniversary Celebration was to be held on 1 December 1934, but due to an abnormal storm on the day before it was postponed to 8th December 1934. 15000 Sunday school scholars and teachers marched through the streets of Melbourne to demonstrate the strength of youth organisations associated with the Churches. The march ended at the Treasury Gardens where a thanksgiving service was held, more than 35,000 people attended. In 1934, the Shiplover's Society of Victoria organised an exhibition of 170 maritime artefacts, photographs and paintings on the barque Shandon berthed on the Yarra river to celebrate the Centenary of the foundation of Melbourne. The exhibition was opened on the 10th of October 1934 by the Lord Mayor, Sir Harold Gengoult Smith and ended on the 17th of March 1935. The catalogue lists all the items on display. Medal commemorating the Centenary of Government of Victoria and the Discovery of Gold, commissioned by the Victorian Government. Designed by Andor Mészáros and minted by K.G. Luke, Melbourne, 1951 marked the centenary of Victoria's separation from the colony of New South Wales. As part of the celebrations, the Victorian Government commissioned this medal from Andor Meszaros. Drawing on his classical background, Mészáros developed the imagery for 'Equality and Justice through Freedom'.
