Btn from 3.2.1942 - 23.3.1944, transfers to "Z" Special Unit and serves in Morotai and Borneo from 27.3.1945 to 17.12.1945, discharged from the AIF on 30.1.1946. Mervyn is Mervyn Herbert Webb, enlists in the CMF No V26035 on 7.11.1941 in 26th M.G. Btn, discharged from the CMF on 28.6.1942 and joins the AIF No VX134519, serves in Darwin with 19th M.G. Sculpture made by Pte Bruno Simon V377556, a 30 year old internee who became a member of the CMF Employment Company. After Nazism came to Germany in 1933, Simon studied sculpture in Paris and Florence and then came to Australia. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment. Following RAN service in WWII John Neale joined 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles in 1948. He progressed through the ranks and postings in the regiment becoming Commanding Officer 1969-76, and later served as Honorary Colonel.
