Book, Burke & Hills: Canterbury Road Camberwell to Montrose, by Heathmont History Group - 2014
Soft cover book of 40 pages with spiral wire spine. Compilation of images and descriptive timeline of the geology, geography and European settlement history of Canterbury Road.Soon after beginning at Burke Road Camberwell, Canterbury Road moves into the gentle hills of Canterbury, then on to Surrey Hills, Box Hill and Forest Hill. Further along past these three "hills" come three "monts" - Vermont, Heathmont and at its other end, Montrose, by then in the foothills of the Dandenongs. Grand homes and churches at one end, major and minor shopping centres along the 25km, factories now where farms were, big box stores, fast food outlets, train stations, resrvoir, traffic, residential stretches, modern apartment blocks, parklands, child-minding centres, sporting ovals, a sewage farm, hotels, quarries, commercial developments, plant nurseries, a golf course, bridges, memorials, Asian food shops, telecommunication towers, bushland, creeks, crossroads, traffic lights, mansions, orchards, swamps ... Delaneys Road, renamed Canterbury Road after a 19th century Victorian Governor, is a fascinating study in land use and history as suburban Melbourne has continually diversified and pushed outwards. Compiled by Heathmont History Group, Rita James, Les Prato, Betty Colbert, Jeff Leipold, Gerry Robinson (convenor). -

Bob Hymans Collection Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today. This letter is significant because it documents interactions between Bob Hymans and the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee.A handwritten letter from Bob Hymans to apply for permission to use a tractor and a four wheel drive to transport stores and baggage for non commercial reasons.falls creek tourist area management committee, transport permit falls creek -

Gulline Brothers was a general store in Bacchus Marsh located in Grant Street, on the corner of Grant Street and Sydney Street. The store was originally opened by John Jory in about 1890. At that time it was advertised as being located on Maddingley Road. It was later taken over by Horace Hussey and William Grant Morton trading as Hussey and Morton, and later solely as Morton's. In the early 1920s it was sold to the Gulline Brothers and traded under this name for many years. The building has had multiple uses and occupants since the Gulline Brothers ran their business there.
