A portrait of a Legatee that had rejoined to serve in the second World War. The caption says it is Legatee E T T Scott. From NAA.gov.au Edward Thomas Tronson Scott joined on 6 March 1918 to serve in World War One, he was enroute on a troop ship when Armistice occurred and then ship returned to Australia. He caught influenza and was hospitalised for several months before being discharged. His records from the DVA show he enlisted 13 July 1940 and attained the rank of Major (service number VX46714), his posting at discharge was AASC Vic L of C Area. The portrait was in an album of photos taken in the 1940s (mostly 1945). Horace Selleck served in the Citizens Military Forces for many years prior to enlisting in the 38th Batt AIF as a Captain on 4.5.16. He embarked with the 38th Batt in June 1916 as part of D Coy. WIA on 1.2.17 with Deafness from Shelling. WIA 2nd occasion 4.10.17 with multiple GSW's to the arms and wrist. He was KIA on 20.7.18 at night by a sniper while visiting night posts in Vaire Wood. The extensive listing of the men under him was retrieved by Sgt Jack Lockett No 1194 D Coy 38th Batt. Jack Lockett went on to become Australia's oldest man attaining the age of 111. Cambrai Day is celebrated annually by Armoured Corps regiments of the British Commonwealth. It marks the anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai in November 1917 when a force of more than 400 British Mark IV Tanks broke the defences of the German Hindenburg Line, It was the first large-scale, effective use of tanks in warfare. Thomas William Francis No 2584. Enlisted on 7.7.1915 in 4th reinforcements 29th Batt AIF age 25 years 6 months. Embarked for Eygpt 14.3.16, embark for France 16.6.1916, reported missing 19/20.7.1916, listed as KIA 20.7.16 (Fromelles) no known grave. The photo is one of a number that originally hung in the "Gallery of Honour" foyer of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Pall Mall Bendigo now the Bendigo Military Museum. In 2008 a mass grave was found with 250 remains in. On 12.4.2013 it was announced that the remains of Thomas Francis had been identified. The rear is dedicated to the individuals height, complexion, eye and hair colour, age on discharge and trade or calling prior to enlistment, intended place of residence.
