Alex McCullough (1916 - 2011) was a prolific writer, an historian, a family man and resident of Mt Beauty, an employee (foreman) of the SECV, served in the war and was on the committee of many clubs (27 at one stage) and associations including the Bright/Alpine Shire (1961-1981).Alex McCullough gives an insight into the development of Mt Beauty township and its community. Due to his heavy involvement at committee level of so many clubs and associations he has been able to document the town's history during his life time enabling the reader to see the changes at all levels and to compare life during that time with that of today.Typed pages on A4 paper held by metal fastener. A previous mill had operated in Charlton by Mr. W.E. Foreman on the banks of the Avoca River and was acquired in 1919 by Noske Bros. The present Flour Mill was built by Noske Bros and opened in May 1927. It was taken over by the Grain Elevator Board in the 1970s. Colour photograph of Charlton Flour Mill and silos. Made as a Souvenir Sales item for the Seattle Waterfront tramway. Purchased at the time of the visit of a former MMTB tram workshops foreman. Depicts W2 512. The Waterfront tramway opened in 1982 using three ex Melbourne trams. Knife, 1941-1977
Knife used to puncture and retrieve wool samples from within bales. Knife was used by Maurice Dalton, who was foreman of the show floor at Dennys Lascelles (bow truss building) until his retirement after 34 years with the company (1941-1977).Wood handle with metal protruding from both the top and bottom of handle. Bottom of handle may be a 'rooster’s tale' as is common in a Farrier's knife (It is possible this knife was originally a Farrier's knife before being repurposed). Top of the knife is approximately half the size of the handle with a sharped edge which has dulled over time. -

Bale Hook, 1900-1980
The bale hooks were used on the Dennys Lascelles building's show floor by the donor's father Maurice Dalton. Maurice was the foreman of the show floor of the Dennys Lacscelles building until his retirement after 34 years with the company and also worked as a wool classer in rural Victoria and New South Wales.Wood handle with curved rusted metal hock ending in a sharp point. One Hook is plain but longer. One hook is shorter and has inscription M.DALTON. on each side of handle. Third hook is much shorter, has dual hooks and a shaped handle.Handle of bale hook. Mirrored. It was absorbed by HCF on 1/11/2021. Functional object - Tramcar Conductors (Signal) Bell
Recovered by the donor, with approval of the Depot Foreman, from the wreckage in the SEC Ballarat yard from the demolished Tram No. 20 that was involved in a collision on 16/9/1970. One of the support members, near the bell striker has been broken through and the area where it was secured to the roof of the tram at the same end has been bent. This may be the result of the accident. JS - John Stephenson of New York?Demonstrates a conductors communication bell made by or for use on Melbourne tramcars. A reminder of SEC Tram No. 20 which was involved in a major accident in Victoria St on 16/9/1970Brass Conductor Signal or Communication Bell, consisting of cast frame, bell, striker, bell pull part, one nut to secure the bell to the frame and a screwed bolt for the bell pull part. Has a section of leather bell cord and a leather bell cord hanging piece. Has the initials "JS" cast in both ends that were used to secure the bell to the roof.
