Appears to be a gas mask made in 1939 for protection against possible gas attack in World War II. Unknown provenance. Willow, the manufacturer of the metal canister, is an Australian family owned and run business, since 1887 and based in Melbourne. From their website: "During the second World War the factories almost exclusively produced munitions, working two shifts. For NBC Warfare.1. Mask - Gas. Full face mask that looks like silicone rubber, black colour. There are two plastic eye pieces and the lower front has a circular exhaust port. Also on this port is a small pipe that can be connected to a water vessel. On the left side is a large inlet filter. 2. Bag - canvas. The bag is a drab olive colour with a nylon shoulder strap. On the back are a couple of mount straps. One side has a small pocket with a cord. The other side has a pocket with a "lid", held shut with Velcro and a press stud. Inside the bag are numerous mounting straps. there is also a small pocket sewn against the front section. 3. Glove - neoprene black - left glove only.Written on top of lid is :- “TURNER R (?) This item and it’s associated gas mask (Cat.No. 0096.1) are of a style typical of German WW2 gas mask and connister, but the use of vinyl instead of rubber and the Spanish manufacture of the gas mask suggests post WW2 manufacture. German WW2-style tin gas mask container, with hinged lid with clip. Lid incorporate stowages for anti-fog lenses (2 in grease-proof envelope). Three loops for attaching webbing. Webbing carry straps missing. Olive green paint. Removeable cover from gas mask filter (ref: Cat.No. 0096.1) stowed loose in cannister.

These lens replacements are part of the set of a German gas mask dating to the First World War. New canisters would have contained spare parts, possibly secured in the lid.Paper case containing two plastic yellow goggle lenses with two pieces of card in between. Lens printed with black ink text. Paper case sealed on three sides and open at top, printed with blue ink.Printed case reads "Klarscheiben/vor Feuchtigkeit schutzen,/nicht wischen,/nur am Rande anfassen,/so einlegen:" which translates roughly to the care instructions of "handle by lens, do not wipe with water". A tank crew gas mask as issued by the United States of America army during World War 2. When correctly worn by the wearer there is a tube fitting at the rear of the head which was connected to a length of flexible hose to receive a fresh air supply.
