Bon Barrie was one of the foundation members and president of the Melton Historical Society from 1968 – 1985. For the Willows Historical Park, he supported the establishment of the park and contributed many volunteers hours in the construction and landscaping of the precinct Bon Barrie (President of the Melton Historical Society) with Jan Brumpton holding the painting 'River Scene'. In 1853, Thomas Bell Darling purchased 176 acres from the Toolern Creek to Ferris Road. A house and bluestone barn/stables were built. The property was owned by Ralph Parkinson, followed by Richard Manning. “Darlingsford” was the name given to the Homestead.
