.1 - Hard bound book, 172 pages, including end covers, 10 sections, title "Mind the Curve", with subtitle "A history of the Cable Trams", stitch bound to hard red Rexene covers with gold block title on the spine only. Dust cover has the title, author, drawing of Bourke St and details of the book and author on the returns. Written by John D Keating, published by the Melbourne University Press in 1970. Has index, acknowledgements, table of contents, list of illustrations and references Looks at the establishment, construction, operation and demise of the cable tram system in Melbourne. Provides location details of the engines houses, tramcars, ticketing, management, politics, the Northcote line and the workers. Has a hand written note written by the daughter of John Caddell, a cable Tammie. On the page opposite the Acknowledgements is a typed note regarding visiting Mr Twentymen's house. .2 on the inside of the rear cover is a photograph and note regarding John Caddell and information about John's retirement from Preston Depot. .3 - Newspaper cutting, "Hold tight for the curves" - The Herald, 15/10/1970 - written by Laurie Power. reviewing the book. 1099.1 - photocopy of an article in The Courier, Ballarat Tuesday Feb. 9 1988, page 17 of the house that contained Ballarat ESCo tram No. 12 in the Tuesday Heritage Column of the newspaper. Contains a photograph of the house containing the tramcar. Newspaper Clipping details the former occupiers, the Rayner family, the construction of the extensions around the tramcar, family use, family history and some details of the family members and other local history. The copy of the newspaper Clipping has numerous pin holes in the corner and the rust marks due to use on a display on Tram No. 12 in a display board in the depot from about 1991 to 1998. From a copy made from the newspaper Clipping collection held by Alan Bradley. 1099.2 - copy made March 1999 of the same Clipping for record purposes and to have a good copy. (2 copies held). Also has a review by John Hindle of the "Storming St. Kilda by Tram", presented by TheatreWorks aboard a special tram for St. Kilda, from the Herald Newspaper dated 15/3/1988. "Pieces of Tram History" Newspaper ...Yields information about the presentation of a set of tickets that were presented to the City of Ballarat at the time of closure of the system.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 22 September 1971 of tickets and passes being given to the City of Ballarat by Mr. Denmead. Shows close up photo of ESCo 1 1/2d tokens, a photograph of a presentation sheets of sample tickets dated 1906 and Mr. Denmead holding metal passes and two tokens. Notes the items as being passed to Council for safe keeping. Article notes that the tokens in the close up photo was owned by Mr. Lyle Kay of 5A Finch St. Ballarat. Also gave a small map that would have been useful to crews to explain to visitors where things were. Used in tramcars when trimmed. This poster made for the 1966 or second last fare increase. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "In Other Days". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Text generically printed feint ruled paper. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Photo of H.P. James and index page - i4 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history. Newspaper cuttings etc often have side notes written by Mr. James. Inside front cover has certificate recording Mr. James membership to the Ballarat Historical Society for 1940. Receipt signed by Edward Crimmins. Also a newspaper cutting on the cost of pensions to Lord Nelson's family. On facing page a photo of Queen Elizabeth, a printer colour cover or sheet about Walt Disney's "Pinocchio", a newspaper cutting regarding Father's Day and a black and white photograph of a young girl in a hospital carriage being pushed by a man. Pages 49 and 50 - "Last Tram". Two photos of crews and identities involved in the running of the Last tram the previous Sunday. Photos feature: Cr N.F. Donald, Mayor of Sebastopol, handing the tram keys over to Cr. J. Chisholm , at the town boundary. Others featured in the first photo, Mr. L. J. Denmead, L. Walker, Mrs. Chisholm and Mrs Donald.
