Northern District School of Nursing nurse's base uniform 1950s - 70s.Blue cotton uniform worn beneath white apron. The uniform is open at the front with eight button holes in right placket for buttons and shanks to attach. There are corresponding buttonholes on left side for closing, a small pocket at top left and a pocket at RHS of skirt. There is a small buttonhole at back of neck to attach white collar and white cuffs are attached to sleeves with two white buttons. The front has gathering from below the shoulders and the back top has an inverted pleat at centre. There is a white belt with two white buttons at one end attached with shanks and three sets of two button holes at the other end for closing. There is a white cap with frill and a line of blue braid above the frill indicating a third year trainee. There is a white apron with four buttonholes at the waist for closing and for the two shoulder straps.A white tag with Joy Lewis' in red is attached to all items. N.T.S in black marking pen is printed on back hem of neck. There are many black marking pen numbers and letters on the cap: NTS, BAS, 574, BH5, 530, 574 The apron has the name Lewis and figures 638 in black marking pen on inside of waist.nurses uniform, northern district school of nursing

The best example of a complete [ca.1900's] uniform of a Alfred Hospital Nursing Student uniformTrainee Nurses Uniform compiled from multiple donations. Mop hat made from organza and grosgrain ribbon,is a reproduction. The dress is a fine herringbone cotton fabric circa 1920. Apron with high round neck [circa 1920] starched cotton, has a repaired tear in the bib, hand darning to tears. Rust mark on right shoulder. 2 starched cuffs with rust marks. Belt starched cotton, Key chain [reproduction] with small metal scissors and 4 keys. Arm band cotton material with full red Maltese cross badge made of felted wool on cotton. The full red cross was worn after the final exam.

Navy white cotton material in miniature houndstooth pattern.Small pocket LHS bodice.3 white fabric covered buttons on front of bodice.Press stud on neckline.X2 hook& eyes at waistband.x2 press studs off centre on skirt opening.Full length sleeves with 3cms cuff.Gathered at yoke,waist and sleeves.Slit pocket on RHS skirt. Re Apron 27-36.White apron made from Finleys sheeting.Yellow stain & repaired tear on skirt of apron.3 buttons on back to attach crossover straps. On waistline of apron Marjorie Hood written in black ink on back of waistline of apron. Re Apron 27-02 white Apron made from Finleys sheeting. Repaired midline tear from neck,10cms. From mid bib from waistline 11cm repaired (with modern day iron on white patch.) On Left side of apron another sown on patch repair. Minor ?ink stains on skirt. Some discolouration of skirt particularly over shoulders of apron straps on outside and underside of hemline. 3 canvas covered buttons on waistline to attach apron straps. Marjorie Hood written in black ink on back of waistline of apron. Re Collar: unstained white.Good condition.Square edge. Re cuffs x 2: Lt cuff has multiple rust stains.Rt cuff unstained.Rectangle yellowed cufflink studs. Re Belt.Yellow discolouration.Good condition. (K.M. Hiatt in blue embroidery on white label sown onto belt-more modern and used to complete ini form). Re 3rd year ArmBand.yellow discolouration.Solid Red coloured Maltese cross in felted wool attached.(in black ink 86.01 on back of armband) Oil marks front of skirt section.Evidence of fraying on RHS skirt.Discolouration stain 12cms x9cms approx on skirt over pocket RHS.
