Les MacLEMAN Les MacLeman was Apprenticed to Michael Cardew and was trained to make beautiful pots. He survived the late 1980s recession by slip-decorating them with Australian themes for the sourvenir market. In 2001, MacLeman was working part-time at Bendigo Pottery. This hall was originally at Tostaree where it was opened in 1919 as State School no. 3994, worked part time with Upper Hospital Creek, Canni Creek. Later used as a public hall for meetings, dances etc. When no longer being used it was donated to Nowa Nowa RSL as clubrooms, later became CWA Hall, finally in mid 1990's fitted out as Recreation Centre.Colour photograph of the Gym at Nowa Nowa. John Rowe began his teaching career at Orbost and Jarrahmond in 1886, a career which continued at Orbost until 1908 when he retired due to ill health. He began teaching at Orbost, (initially part-time with Jarrahmond) on 10th May 1886, following the very short tenure of the first appointee, Campbell MacKay. Until the arrival of 'specialist' dentists in the mid-nineteenth century, dental care was provided by the medical profession and druggists, who were eventually registered under two British Acts, the Colonial Medical Act (1858) and the Colonial Dentists Act (1878). Until 1911 Cheltenham had a local Voluntary Fire Brigade. In that year the Metropolitan Fire Brigade was formed and through it a hall was built on the Highway at a cost of £350. Eight years later a brick house costing £1151 was added. There were two full time firemen; several others served part time. In 1960 the fire protection system was re-organised; the building on the Highway was demolished and replaced by the Ambulance Station.Two images on one strip of negative film. The report discusses increasing the hours of a clerk/typist, not re-appointing a person to replace The Senior Pensions Advocate and a new appointment with computer skills. Wages increased by 53.3%. The wage increase was in line with award rates. Salaries rose by 51.8% from June1983 to April 1990. The report also discusses staff leave, work environment, staff morale and adequacy of office equipment. The future (3-5 years) was discussed in regard to pensions, welfare, housing accommodation for widows and handicapped dependants and fund raising. Staughton Vale State School Honor Roll circa 1920 Staughton Vale is located on the South Eastern side ofn the You Yangs. Staughton Vale High School was opened on the 5th of November 1875 The first head teacher was Thomas Scott. It had a chequered history, operating only part-time for some periods, closing in 1949, but reopening in 1957, and finally closing for good on the 30th of September 1968.
