Melbourne Legacy
Pamphlet, Legacy does more than sell badges
A brochure promoting Legacy in the 1990's. Some of the text includes sections on How is Legacy special?; Legacy and the young; Legacy and the Aged. "Legacy and the young. Legacy is committed to the nurturing of its young members, known as Junior Legatees. Legacy helps to make sure stye get the education their fathers would have wished for them and to ensure their families enjoy a normal lifestyle. In addition to the 3,000 Junior Legatees throughout Australia, Legacy also cares for the handicapped dependants of its "family". Recreational outings and educational programs are arranged on a monthly basis. These activities aim to develop self-dependence and once a year, a two-week holiday camp is held - a highlight of the year - and lifelong friendship are often made. / For all its young members, healthy outdoor activities are arranged, financial aid, counselling, tutoring and guidance are given to ensure they are able to make the most of the opportunities open to them. Legacy and the Aged. Nowadays, the Australian population has a large proportion of elderly. The majority of Legacy widows had husbands who served in the World Wars. And so Legacy's emphasis has shifted to the needs of the ageing widows. . . Legacy widows meet for a wide range of activities, including cards, crafts, indoor bowls and theatre excursions. . . This represents a valuable social network and complements the volunteer care given by Legatees."A brochure that promotes Legacy in the 1990's.Colour brochure "Legacy does more than sell badges", folded into 4 sections.legacy promotion, fundraising -

Photograph - Photo, Legacy Appeal, Badge Week Stall, 1990
Two photos of widows with a handcrafts stall at Flinders Street Station in 1990. Widows met regularly at Legacy House for craft gatherings lessons. Some of the items the Widows produced were entered into an annual craft contest and exhibition. Many items were also donated to the annual Badge Week stall that widows organised. The stall was often outside Legacy House but in these photos from 1990 the stall was set up at Flinders Street Station. Background context for the establishment of the Eltham War Memorial as a living memorial, championed by the women of the community with the establishment of the Eltham War Memorial Trust and how the memorial was funded by public donations and eventually handed over to Council. The essay came about in 2018 following community protest at Council's plans to sell the land. Following abandonment of the sale process and putting development on hold, community groups pulled together to apply for heritage protection of the site with Heritage Victoria. This was formally rejected in May 2020.Contents: An essay addressed to the Councillors of Nillumbik Shire, October 2018: About the Eltham War Memorial and the adjacent community-owned sites in Eltham that the Council threatens to sell, Andrew Lemon Nov. 2018 Public Notice: Heritage Act 2017, Recommendations to the Heritage Council, Heritage Council Victoria, The Age, May 22, 2020, p34eltham war memorial, eltham war memorial trust, mrs. ada lyon, mrs. cairns officer, mrs. j.j. morrison, andrew lemon, children's library, eltham war memorial garden, eltham war memorial gate, eltham war memorial hall, garden of remembrance, heritage council victoria, nillumbik shire council, theodore feldbauer, violet feldbauer (nee teagle) -

Article, Legacy Roses
In 1964 Legacy was involved with the release of a rose that was dedicated to Legacy. It as a raised bush variety by RT Hamilton, Heidelberg. 'It is a deep rose pink, reliably splashed with white, large double and well-formed exhibition blooms'. The proceeds of the sale of the plants were donated to Melbourne Legacy. In 1974 a rose was released as 'Legacy Jubilee' which was 'a yellow with the tips of the petals suffused red'. It was profiled in 'The Australian Rose Annual' and distributor Mr John Neil of 'Australian Roses' had over 2,000 plants available for sale. Letters include replies to requests to purchase and receipt of donations. In 1975 Mr Neil wrote a note with a cheque for $100 as royalties and donation, and President Braidie replied with a letter of acknowledgement. Also see item 00155 for the 1974 brochure and order form of the two roses. An example of a fundraiser by Legacy in 1964 and 1974.Various documents relating to selling rose bushes called 'Rose Legacy' and 'Legacy Jubilee', and where it featured on a Christmas card.fundraising, legacy promotion -
