The three brick shops were part of the later commercial development which emerged along O'Shanassy Street. These shops were built on the northern side of Brook Street. Phillip Dresher (1823-1906), was born in Germany and emigrated to Ireland before coming to Australia in 1852. He was married to Margaret Cosgrove. After Phillip died his son John Thomas (1873-1919) took over the business. John Thomas was also a watchman for the fire brigade.black and white photograph. This is a brochure produced for the Owens of Warrnambool Farm and Workshop Expo. The story of Owens of Warrnambool began in the 1880s when Flett and Hopkins began a plumbing and blacksmith business in Lava Street. In the early 1900s the business was taken over by Bruce and McClure who added a foundry and produced and serviced farm equipment. In 1945 the business was purchased by four Owen brothers. In 1953 the business became known as Owens of Warrnambool. In 1987 the business was purchased by Alan Lane and following his death in 1995 the business became part of the Alan Lane Foundation. In 2000 the business was transferred to Caramut Road. This brochure is of some interest as it contains information on Owens of Warrnambool, a prominent business in Warrnambool today and one with a significant history in the city. This is an Owens of Warrnambool A4- size fold-out brochure of three pages, printed back to back. There is information on the history of Owens of Warrnambool, Owens Water Industries, Owens Rural and Industrial Supplies and associated firms with their logos. Gold was discovered in the Beechworth area in 1852, leading to a significant rush to the area as diggers and hopeful migrants alike hoped to strike it rich. Sunnyside Cash Store was located on the corner of High Street and Wilson Streets Wodonga. It was built and operated by Bill and Ethel Elkington about 1947. The building is in Art Deco style with an awning, verandah and rendered brick parapet behind which was a pitched roof. The shop front originally featured black tile surrounds which have since been removed. The Ice Cream Cone at the front of the building was unfortunately stolen. Apart from a brief period in the early 2000s, the premises has operated as a corner store or café continuously since it was built. Anglesea is a town on the Great Ocean Road in the Surf Coast Shire local government area. It is 110km from Melbourne. Before 1967 policing in Anglesea was on a seasonal basis with a 'shop front' police station and caravan in the main street. Anglesea Police Station (Barwon District) was opened on 7 February 1967 on the corner of Wray Street and The Great Ocean Road. It was a residential police station, brick veneer with an iron roof with 3 rooms, a bathroom, laundry and a garage. When the station opened it was staffed by one Senior Constable and two First Constables. Photograph of Fitzroy, Northcote & Preston Tramways Trust (FNPTT) R class tramcar No.1 northbound on single track in Plenty Road, Preston approaching a double track loop south of Bell Street. The photograph looks southward showing an unsealed road surface with a few horse drawn carts, span poles and overhead wires, tramways overhead light above loop turnout and low density shop fronts. While this tramcar and track were constructed for the FNPTT, the line was only operated by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board from 1920. This car would soon be renumbered 151 and relocated to other lines Melbourne.Yields information about commencement of the Preston tram line and the Fitzroy, Northcote & Preston Tramways Trust. The photograph shows the Orbost Town Band playing in the procession for the Bairnsdale Carnival. The Bairnsdale band was defunct at this time. The first Orbost Brass Band was formed in 1889. Around 1908 the town band split and the Orbost Workers' Band was formed. Eventually the two bands merged in 1913 to reform as the Orbost Municipal Band under conductorship of Charles Spink. The band continued for many years but was later disbanded and again reformed. This was to happen a number of times, the last time being in 1961 and continuing through to the late 1970's.
