A promotional car sticker of Healesville Sanctuary specialising in Australian Fauna and Flora. This item was displayed at the front entrance to encourage visitors to purchase and promote the Sanctuary. This car sticker was a very popular and sought after souvenir selling for 25 cents contributing to the Sanctuary's income. Healesville Sanctuary was the first institution to breed platypus in a total captive situation.and is also the only institution in the world to breed LyrebirdsA promotional circular car sticker depicting a lyrebird tail in full display above a platypus side on. Has dark green border at ouside edge of sticker; colours are black, gold and green. Sticker is in a wooden glass frame and has a dynamo label glued to upper edge of glass. Ruyton Girls' School was founded in 1878 and celebrated it's centenary in 1978. The souvenir tea spoon was part of a range of celebration merchandise offered to the school community.Souvenir teaspoon with a decorative circular medallion at the end of the handle. The medallion features the Ruyton Girls' School 'Old English' R crest in gold and blue enamel. The tea spoon is presented in a clear plastic rectangular presentation case lined with blue card. Souvenir Teaspoon featuring Ballarat tram No. 38 in an inset at the top of the tea spoon, contained within a plastic case. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Cameo style or type. The case has white plastic base, red and yellow foam base, with clear top, marked "Cameo" and a $3 yellow price sticker stuck to it. On the rear of the case is the wording "Perfection Souvenirs". On the top of the case at the base in white printing "Silver plated / Made in Australia" The teaspoon is silver plated, with the tram in a picture 15mm diameter. The teaspoon is marked "Cameo" on the rear. The silver plating on the rear was not done properly and is the reason why the spoon was not sold by the Museum at the time. Mission to Seafarers VictoriaFlag - Burgee, framed, 1980s
National significance. Presented as souvenir by Commodore Mr Andrew M. Cannon AM, of the Australian Yacht Squadron. Date of presentation unknown but commemorates America's Cup victory of Australia II in 1982. Commodore Dacre Smyth, who designed and presented the Naval windows in the MTSV chapel , was also a member of the Squadron. The burgee was designed by Nigel Abbott, twice world sailing champion and graphic designer. The burgee design features the Commonwealth Star in the corner, the A for Australia and the nautical colours of Royal blue – as per the Oxford Concise Dictionary – red and white.A link and souvenir with a significant event in the life of yachtsmen and for the City of Perth and Australia in 1982. The first time in many years that the USA lost this coveted cup and contest.Mounted triangular pennant style Australian Yacht Squadron flag also known in yachting circles as a burgee. Red, white and blue colours with white star in the middle and Red 'A' on top left. Gilded wooden frame with glazing with three window label inserts. These plates were produced by Ballarat potter John Gilbert at his Old Ballarat pottery in Mt Clear in 1994. Gilbert established two potteries in Ballarat , the Edinburgh Pottery at Sovereign Hill Historical village and the Old Ballarat Pottery. Gilbert studied art at the School of Mines Ballarat, now Federation University and went on to lecture there. George operated the lodge with Michael “Baldy” Blackwell as manager. In 1981 he graduated in sport psychology and was invited to become team psychologist for the Australian Winter Olympic team which went to Albertville, France, in 1992. He later owned the Red Onion Chalet. George Shirling passed away on 27th February 2023. The Victorian Skiing Club Association was established in July 1955 to combine the interests of all Victorian Ski Clubs to advance the combined objectives of the Clubs in the development of Victorian skiing areas and advancing the technical standards of the sport. The Association had 33 Foundation member clubs and a further 5 Clubs joined in its first year representing over 3500 individual members. George Shirling arrived in Falls Creek in 1962. He engaged Phil Nowell to build the original Koki Alpine Lodge which opened in 1965 with 14 beds. George operated the lodge with Michael “Baldy” Blackwell as manager. He also graduated in sport psychology in 1981 and was invited to become team psychologist for the Australian Winter Olympic team which went to Albertville, France, in 1992. He later owned the Red Onion Chalet. George credited the success of Koki to “Baldy” Blackwell. “Baldy” and Phil Nowell started the Trackers Mountain Lodge in partnership during the 1980s. In 1971 George sold Koki Lodge to Sigi Doerr. In 2024 the renamed Koki Alpine resort remains a highly popular destination in Falls Creek. George Shirling passed away on 27th February 2023.
