Telephones were mounted on the wall and were operated by turning a small handle situated in the middle of the phone. This connected the speaker to the switch board where they were 'put through' to the other end (speaker).Wall phones were used by State Electricity Commission of Victoria workers and their families on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The SECV had a switchboard located at Mt Beauty. A legatee function in Legacy House with Bruce Ruxton as a guest speaker. It is assumed to be 1991 as Legatee John Sullivan appears to be presenting a plaque to Mr Ruxton. L/ Sullivan was president in 1991. The plaque signifies that Mr Ruxton was made 'Guest of Honour' which is the highest accolade awarded to guests. A photo from The Age on 31 August 1960 shows that Sir Macfarlane Burnet, director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute was invited to speak at a Legacy club function. He won a Nobel Prize in 1960 for predicting acquired immune tolerance and was best known for developing the theory of clonal selection. For many years there was a Legacy meeting every Tuesday with a guest speaker every week. The article was cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrap book of press clippings. For many years Legacy kept scrap books of press clippings that related to their work and publicity.A record that prominent Australians were invited to speak at Legacy functions.
